General informationReading and storing the user manual

This user manual accompanies this sunrise alarm clock with musical alarm and radio. It contains important information on start-up

and handling.

For improved readability, the sunrise alarm clock with musical alarm and radio will be referred to only as the “sunrise alarm clock” below.

Before using the sunrise alarm clock, read through the user manual carefully, particularly the safety notes. Failure to heed this user manual may result in severe injury or to damage to the sunrise alarm clock.

The user manual is based on the standards and rules in force in the European Union. When abroad, you must also observe country-specific guidelines and laws.

Store the user manual for future use. If you pass the sunrise alarm clock on to third parties, please be absolutely sure to include this user manual.

Only use the sunrise alarm clock as described in this user manual. Any other use is deemed improper and may result in damage to property or even personal injury.

The manufacturer or vendor accepts no liability for damage caused by improper or incorrect use.

− Only connect the sunrise alarm clock to an easily accessible socket so that you can quickly disconnect it from the mains in the event of a fault.

− Do not operate the sunrise alarm clock if it is visibly damaged or if the mains cord or mains adapter is defective.

− Only replace the damaged mains adapter with a mains adapter of the same type. In this case, contact the service address indicated on the warranty card.

− Do not open the housing; instead, have a qualified professional perform the repairs. In this case, contact the service address indicated on the warranty card.

− Do not immerse the sunrise alarm clock or the mains adapter in water or other liquids.

− Never touch the mains adapter with damp hands.

− Never pull the mains adapter out of the socket by the mains cord. Always do so by taking hold of the mains adapter.

− Never use the mains cord as a carrying handle.

− Keep the sunrise alarm clock and the mains adapter away from open fire and hot surfaces.

− Do not kink the mains cord and do not lay it over sharp edges.

− Only use the sunrise alarm clock indoors. Never operate the sunrise alarm clock in wet rooms or in the rain.

− Never store the sunrise alarm clock such that there is a risk of it falling into a tub or a basin.

− Never reach to retrieve an electrical device if it has fallen in water. In such a case, immediately disconnect the mains plug.

− Make sure that children do not insert any objects in the sunrise alarm clock.

− Always switch the sunrise alarm clock off and pull the mains adapter out of the socket when you are not using it for a prolonged period, when you intend to clean it or in the event of a fault.

Children must not play with the sunrise alarm clock. Cleaning and user maintenance must not be performed by children.

− Keep children away from the sunrise alarm clock and mains adapter.

− Do not allow children to play with the packaging wrapper. Children could put it in their mouth, swallow it and choke.

If you suspect that a battery has been swallowed or otherwise incorporated, seek immediate medical attention.

− Promptly remove an empty battery from the battery compartment. Otherwise it could leak. If a battery has leaked, avoid contact with your skin, eyes and mucous membranes. In the event of contact with battery acid, immediately flush the applicable areas with plenty of clean water and consult a physician.

− Do not throw batteries in fire. They could explode or release toxic vapours.

− To prevent batteries from leaking, do not charge them, do not disassemble them and do not short circuit them.

− Take the batteries out of the battery compartment as soon as they are empty.

− Only use batteries of the same type (see chapter “Technical data”).

− Do not use old and new batteries in combination with one another.

− Do not place any objects on the sunrise alarm clock.

− Do not apply any pressure to the display and do not touch it with edged objects. Otherwise the display could break.

− Protect the sunrise alarm clock against dust. − Avoid very strong magnetic fields (e.g.

from electric welding machines or transformers) as they could interfere with the correct time measurement.

− Do not operate the sunrise alarm clock continuously at temperatures between 0 °C and –10 °C. Do not operate or store the sunrise alarm clock at temperatures under –10 °C and over 40 °C.

− Only connect the sunrise alarm clock if the mains voltage of the socket corresponds to the nameplate specification of the mains adapter.

First useChecking the sunrise alarm clock and pack contents

1. Take the sunrise alarm clock out of the packaging.2. Check to make sure that the delivery is complete

(see fig. A and B).3. Check whether the sunrise alarm clock or the

individual parts exhibit damage. If this is the case, do not use the sunrise alarm clock. Contact the manufacturer via the service address indicated on the warranty card.

The power supply of the sunrise alarm clock is provided by three type AAA 1.5 V batteries. The batteries have already been inserted in the battery compartment upon delivery, however, a battery insulating strip prevents contact with the sunrise alarm clock. It clearly protrudes between the battery compartment and the cover. You can pull it out without opening the battery compartment.

Mains connection1. Insert the barrel plug of the mains cord 2 in the

female plug 6 .

2. Insert the mains adapter in a socket.

The LCD 1 will illuminate.

OperationPlease note that the sunrise alarm clock is only fully functional when connected to the mains. During battery operation, only the clock and a single warning sound (“beep”) are activated.

Setting the date, time and languageThe date, time and language can only be set in one continuous step. You cannot configure the individual functions separately.

1. Hold the button 16 down for approx. 3 seconds. The current year will start blinking on the LCD 1 .

After approx. 30 seconds of inactivity, the sunrise alarm clock will switch back to the normal display. Your settings up to this point will be saved. In this case, start the configuration process anew.

2. Push the button 11 or button 17 to set the year.

To fast forward or fast rewind while setting the current year, hold the or  button down.

3. Once you have set the year, tap the button again. The current year will disappear and the current month will start to flash.

4. Push the or button to set the current month.5. Tap the button again. The current day will start to

flash.6. Push the or button to set the current day.7. Tap the button again. The current hours will start

to flash.

8. Push the or button to set the current hours.9. Tap the button again. The current minutes will

start to flash.10. Push the or button to set the current minutes.11. Tap the button again. The current hours/minutes

will disappear and the current hour format will start to flash.

12. Push the or button to select 12-hour or 24-hour format.If 24-hour format is selected, the date will be shown in “day/month” format. If 12-hour format is selected, the date will be shown in the “month/day” format.

13. Tap the button again. The current hour format will disappear and the current language will start flashing. You can choose from the following languages for the display of the day of the week:

14. Push the or button to select which language the days of the week will be displayed in.

15. Tap the button again.

The date, time and language for the day of the week have now been set.

Setting the alarm and wake-up lightSetting the alarm is a continuous step from setting the alarm time to setting the wake-up light. You cannot configure the individual functions separately.

1. Hold the button 9 down for approx. 3 seconds. The current hour setting for the alarm time will flash on the LCD.

After approx. 30 seconds of inactivity, the sunrise alarm clock will switch back to the normal display. Your settings up to this point will be saved. In this case, start the configuration process anew.

2. Push the button 11 or button 17 to set the hours.

3. Then tap the button again. The current minute setting for the alarm time will start to flash.

4. Push the or button to set the minutes.

5. Tap the button again. The current status of the alarm will start to flash.

6. Push the or button to:• activate the alarm and alarm repeat ( ),• activate the alarm only ( ),• switch off the alarm (no symbol).

7. Then tap the button again. You will now hear the preset alarm sound (beep). The number (09) and the symbol ( ) for the alarm sound will start to flash.

8. Push the or button to select the desired alarm sound. You can choose from the following sounds:

9. Tap the button again. The current volume setting for the alarm will flash.

10. Push the or button to select the desired volume between “1 VO” (very quiet) and “18 VO” (full volume). If you would like to deactivate the alarm sound, select “0 VO”.

11. Tap the button again. The display and the symbol for brightness of the light ( ) will start to flash.

12. Push the or button to select a brightness between “01” (very low) and “18” (very light). If you do not want the alarm clock to light up when the alarm sounds, select brightness “00”.

13. Tap the button again. The time for the wake-up sequence will start to flash.

14. Push the or button to set the time for the wake-up sequence (OFF, 05, 10, 15, 20, 25 or 30 minutes). The selection for the wake-up sequence will determine the number of minutes for activation of wake-up light before the alarm sounds at the set time. At the beginning of the wake-up sequence, the wake-up light will illuminate at a lower brightness and gradually become brighter until it has reached the set brightness at the set alarm time. The alarm sound will play at low volume at the set alarm time, then become increasingly louder and reach the set volume after 60 seconds.If you would only like the wake-up light to turn on at the set alarm time, select “OFF”.

15. Tap the button again.

You have now set the alarm of the sunrise alarm clock.

Test the alarm in fast forward − To test the alarm with the selected presets, tap the

button 12 .

Alarm fast forward does not work when the radio is activated as the button is need to set the station.

The brightness will increase from low to the set brightness during the first 10 seconds of the test. The corresponding brightness will be indicated on the LCD 1 while the symbol for brightness ( ) flashes.The volume of the alarm sound will increase from low to the set volume in the next 10 seconds of the test. The increasing volume will appear on the LCD while “VO” flashes next to it.

− If you would like to abort the test prematurely, tap the button again.

Activating the alarm1. To activate the alarm, briefly tap the button 9 .

The alarm symbol ( ) (for alarm sound 09 “beep”) or the alarm and note symbol ( ) (for alarm sounds 01–08) will appear on the LCD 1 .

If you have selected the radio (alarm sound 10) as the alarm sound, the alarm symbol ( ) and “FM” will appear on the top left of the LCD.

2. Tap the button again to set the alarm to repeat. The symbol for the alarm repeat function ( ), the alarm symbol ( ) (with the “beep” alarm sound 09) or alarm and note symbol ( ) (with the alarm sounds 01–08) will appear on the LCD.If you have selected the radio (alarm sound 10) as the alarm sound, the symbol for the alarm repeat function ( ), the alarm symbol ( ) and “FM” will appear on the top left of the display.

− If you would like to deactivate the alarm, tap the button again.The symbol for the alarm repeat function ( ), the alarm symbol ( ) and the note symbol ( ) or “FM” will disappear on the LCD.

Deactivating the alarm − To permanently deactivate the alarm sound and

wake-up light, push the button 4 for approx. 3 seconds.The alarm will continue to be active and will sound at the same time the next day.

− To deactivate the alarm and wake-up light and activate the alarm repeat function, tap the button. The following will flash on the LCD 1 :

• Alarm symbol ( ) and alarm repeat symbol ( ) with alarm sound 09 (“beep”),

• Note symbol ( ) and alarm repeat symbol ( ) for alarm sounds 01–08,

• Alarm repeat symbol ( ) and, on the top left of the display, “FM” with the alarm sound 10 (radio).

The wake-up light will stay on with the set brightness. The alarm will repeat after 10 minutes have passed.

− If you don’t push a button, the alarm and light will continue to be active for 60 minutes after the set alarm time.

Radio − To activate the radio, push the button 14 .

The frequency will appear on the LCD 1 . − To improve reception, align the antenna cord 5

accordingly. − To decrease or increase the volume of the radio,

push the button 15 or the button 13 . − Push the  button again to deactivate the radio.

Searching and saving radio stations1. To select a radio station (USW), push the button 11

or button 17 until you have found the desired frequency.

To start searching for stations, push and hold the or button for approx. 3 seconds. The radio will stop scanning once it has located the frequency of the next radio station.

2. To save the located radio station, push and hold the  button 14 for approx. 3 seconds. The number for

the channel will appear on the LCD 1 instead of the frequency. The “MEM” display next to it will start flashing.

3. To choose a number between 01 and 08, push the button 12 .

4. To save the radio station under the desired number, push the  button again.

5. To subsequently select the channel when the radio is activated, push the button 12 until the desired number appears.

Sleep timer (radio)When the sleep timer function is activated, the radio will automatically deactivate after a preset time.

1. To set the sleep timer function for the radio, push the button 4 for approx. 3 seconds in radio mode. The screen for activating the sleep timer will appear on the LCD 1 (default setting: OFF).

2. To set the amount of minutes until the radio switches off, tap the button again. You can choose between 15, 30, 45 and 60 minutes. If you select OFF, the radio will continue to run until it is deactivated manually.

The display for activating the sleep timer will turn off after approx. 5 seconds.

Use as a lightThe sunrise alarm clock can also be used as a light.

− Tap the button 4 to switch the normal light on or off.

− Push the button 10 or button 18 to set the brightness.

Night lightThe sunrise alarm clock also has a night light in various colours.

1. To activate the night light, first switch the normal light off.

2. Push the button 10 . The night light will illuminate.

3. You can choose from the following colours for the night light by pressing the button again:

The brightness of the night light cannot be controlled.

Sleep timer (light)When the sleep timer function is activated, the light will automatically deactivate after a preset time.

The sleep timer function only works with the normal wake-up light and not with the night light.

1. To activate the sleep timer function for the light, push the button 4 for approx. 3 seconds while the light is on. The display for activating the timer will appear on the LCD 1 .

2. To set the amount of minutes until the light switches off, tap the button again. You can choose between 15, 30, 45 and 60 minutes.If you select “OFF”, the light will illuminate until it is manually deactivated.

The display for activating the sleep timer will turn off after approx. 5 seconds.

LCD backlightYou can use the OFF/LO/HIGH slider 8 on the back of the alarm clock to control the backlight of the LCD 1 in 3 different levels.

• The backlight is deactivated in the “OFF” position. • In the “LO” position, the backlight is set to low

brightness.• In the “HI” position, the backlight is set to

maximum brightness.

Resetting the settings − If irregular characters appear on the LCD 1

or the sunrise alarm clock does not respond to your entry, push the RESET button 7 on the back of the sunrise alarm clock. This will reset the microprocessor.

Please keep in mind that all settings (time, alarm, etc.) will be lost during a reset.

Battery operationTo ensure that the alarm continues to function after a power failure, the sunrise alarm clock is equipped with three 1.5 V type AAA batteries as a back-up.

In battery operation, only the clock and a single alarm sound (“beep”) are acti-vated. In the event of a power failure, the beep alarm will always activate at the set time (even if you have selected a different alarm sound). The wake-up light and LCD backlight will not work in battery operation. The radio and use as a light are not possible in battery operation.

Changing the batteryFrom time to time, check the back-up batteries so that the clock of sunrise alarm clock continues to operate in the event of a power failure and the alarm will sound. To do so, proceed as follows:

1. Open the cover of the battery compartment in the base 3 .

2. Insert new batteries (three 1.5 V type AAA batteries) with the correct polarity.

3. Put the cover back on.

NOTICE!

Risk of short circuit! Water that has penetrated the housing may cause a short circuit.

− Never submerge the sunrise alarm clock in water or other liquids.

− Make sure that no water or other liquids penetrate the housing.

NOTICE!

Risk of damage!Improper cleaning may damage the sunrise alarm clock.

− Do not use any aggressive cleaners, brushes with metal or nylon bristles or sharp or metallic cleaning utensils such as knives, hard scrapers and the like. They could damage the surfaces.

− Make sure that no drops of water remain on the display. Water may cause permanent discolouration.

− Do not apply pressure to the display when cleaning.

1. Disconnect the sunrise alarm clock from the mains before cleaning.

2. Only clean the surface of the sunrise alarm clock with a soft, damp, lint-free cloth.

Storage − Disconnect the sunrise alarm clock from the mains if

you are not using it for a prolonged period of time. − Store the sunrise alarm clock in a dry, frost-free

place. Also make sure that the sunrise alarm clock is not exposed to temperatures below –10 °C or above 40 °C and is not exposed to direct sunlight when in storage.

TroubleshootingFault Possible cause and solution

The sunrise alarm clock is not working.

The mains cord 2 is not properly inserted in the female plug 6 of the sunrise alarm clock or the mains adapter is not properly connected with the socket.

− Make sure that the female plug and the mains adapter are correctly inserted.

The sunrise alarm clock is not working.

There is currently a power failure.

− Check the power supply by connecting another device to the socket.

The mains adapter is damaged.

− Contact the service address provided on the warranty card.

Different functions cannot be adjusted.

The sunrise alarm clock is in battery operation and as a result, not all functions are available.

− Connect the sunrise alarm clock to a socket.

The microprocessor in the sunrise alarm clock must be reset.

− Push the RESET button 7 on the back of the sunrise alarm clock or pull the mains adapter out of the socket and then connect the sunrise alarm clock to the mains. As a result, the sunrise alarm clock will be reset to the factory settings.

The light will not illuminate if the wake-up alarm is triggered.

The brightness has been set too low or the wake-up light is deactivated.

− Set the brightness or activate the light as described in the chapter “Operation”.

The alarm clock does not sound when the wake-up alarm is triggered.

The volume has been set too low or the sound as a wake-up alarm has been deactivated.

− Set the volume or activate the sound as described in the chapter “Operation”.

If you selected the radio as an alarm sound, the radio may be defective.

− Push the   button 14 after you have switched off the alarm clock. If the radio still doesn’t work, contact the service address specified on the warranty card.

The radio crackles or is not working.

The radio signal is too weak.

− Set the frequency as described in the chapter “Radio”.

− Adjust the position of the antenna cord 5 .

The radio function is defective.

− Contact the service address provided on the warranty card.

The alarm was activated the day before, but not today.

The alarm function is disabled.

− Set the alarm function for the next day and the next time it activates, switch the alarm sound and light off by pushing or holding down the button 4 . The alarm will continue to be active and will sound at the same time the next day.

The volume and/or brightness are set too low.

− Set the volume and/or brightness as described in the chapter “Operation”.

The power supply was interrupted and the back-up batteries ran out.

− Connect the sunrise alarm clock to the mains and set it again if necessary.

The wake-up light turns on too early or too late.

The selected brightness is not suitable for you.

− Select a higher brightness if you wake up too late or a lower intensity if you wake up too early. (See chapter “Operation” for the setting.)

The sunrise alarm clock is not level with your head.

− Make sure that the sunrise alarm clock is in line with your head and that it is not covered by bed or your blanket or pillow.
