Congratulations on choosing a digital hearing systemfrom Phonak. Your new myPilot is a very important partof it. myPilot is an elegant and user-friendly remotecontrol and status reader which gives you access to allfunctions of your digital hearing system. Furthermore,it guarantees easy management of your hearingprograms with visual confirmation on a state-of-the-art color display.
You can use myPilot to tune both of your hearinginstruments simultaneously. Or you can control bothhearing instruments individually, allowing you toperfectly fine-tune your hearing instruments to anyspecific hearing situation.

Charging the battery and general battery info
myPilot has an internal, rechargeable battery.To charge it, connect the charging cable to myPilotas shown in the picture below. Then plug theother end of the charging cable into a power outlet.
Do not use myPilot while charging.
For safety reasons, recharge the battery onlywith chargers supplied by Phonak.

During the charging process, the battery symbol onthe Home screen is flashing. Once the battery is fullycharged, the battery symbol will stop flashing andremain visible.
Charging an empty battery typically takes about90 minutes. It is safe to leave the charger connectedovernight—the battery cannot be overcharged.
When charging myPilot for the first time, leaveit to charge for five hours, even if the batterysymbol stops flashing.
A new battery’s full performance is achieved onlyafter two or three complete charge and dischargecycles.
The myPilot battery can be charged hundreds oftimes. If the operating time of your myPilot reducessubstantially, please contact your hearing careprofessional.

Turning ONTo turn myPilot ON,press and holdthe ON/OFF buttonfor two secondsuntil you see thedisplay turn ON.
Turning OFFTo turn myPilot OFF, press and hold the ON/OFF buttonfor two seconds until you see the display turn OFF.
For optimal convenience it is suggested to keepmyPilot turned on while wearing the hearinginstruments. To avoid unwanted changes of thehearing instruments settings you can use thekeypad lock. When you turn your hearinginstruments off please also switch off myPilot.

Auto keypad lockmyPilot is equipped with an automatic keypad lockwhich locks the keys automatically, once the device hasnot being used for more than 20 seconds. To enablethe feature, refer to section “Auto keypad lock”.
Manual keypad lockYou also have the possibility of manually activating thekeypad lock via the menu.
To lockTo lock the keypad, press to enter the menuand select Lock keypad. The keypad will lock andthe device will enter the sleep mode.In the "direct control"-mode the manual lock isnot available.

Operating range
myPilot functions as a remote control (e.g. for settingvolume, selecting different hearing programs). Remotecontrol operating range is about 100 cm (40”).
Additionally, it is capable of reading status informationfrom the hearing instruments (e.g. battery status,programs). Status readout operating range is about 40 cm(16”).

Selecting your preferred Home screenTo select different Home screens, enter the menu bypressing the center button then select Settings,then Home screens.
The “standard”-mode gives you the most completeoverview of volume and program, including iconicpictures of the programs.
In the “direct control”-mode each button directlyselects the indicated program number. This mode is forthe program and volume control only with no menuor ZoomControl screen access. How to skip the directcontrol mode, see page 16.
From any screen or menu level, press the middlebutton for 4 seconds to always return tothe default settings of your hearing system andthe Home screen of myPilot.

The program names are shown for 10 secondsafter a new program is selected.

FlexControl and volume control
IntroductionFlexControl (optional) is an innovative functionalitywhich improves the classical volume control. Bypushing the Up or Down button, you can adjust yourhearing instruments for better understanding or morepleasantness. That means that the sound is not onlygetting louder or softer, but that the hearing instrumentsare adapting to your personal preference for betterunderstanding or ease of listening, specific to eachlistening situation.FlexControl is available on hearing instrumentssupporting the feature. Please ask your hearing careprofessional for more information.
Binaural volume controlGo to the Volume screen by pressing either � or �while in the Home screen (the volume screen is notavailable in the “direct control”-mode). Now youcan change the volume of both hearing instrumentssimultaneously by pressing � to increase the volumeand � to decrease the volume.

In the event that the readout process fails, forexample because the hearing instruments are out ofrange, myPilot will indicate this by showing questionmarks instead of hearing instrument batteries inthe "My instruments"-screen. In order to read out and display status information,myPilot must be within about 40 cm (16") of the hea-ring instruments. Hold the myPilot as shown in thepicture.

Program ambiguityThere may be situations where myPilot cannot displaythe hearing program consistently. If, for example,you change the hearing program on one of your hearinginstruments manually, the next time you initiate thereadout process on your myPilot, the screen willalternate between the left & right hearing programsdetected, together with the following symbol:
By pressing either the left or right arrow button youcan choose which hearing program you wish to applyto both hearing instruments.

myPilot battery status
The status of the myPilot battery is shown with abattery symbol in the Home screen. Batteryconsumption and the operating time greatly dependon the usage of the device. With normal use, myPilotwill run for a few days before needing recharging.Once the battery is close to being depleted, the lowbattery symbol will appear in the top left cornerof the Home screen.
myPilot will still run for about an hour but youshould recharge the battery as soon as possible.

ZoomControl screen (optional)
If your hearing instruments are equipped withZoomControl, this special feature allows you to choosedirections in which to focus your hearing system(automatic, front, back, left or right). The ZoomControlscreen is only accessible from the “standard”-mode.
Direct access of ZoomControl screenA special function of the menu key is to accessZoomControl screen directly. If you press and holdfor about 2 seconds you will enter the screen (bypassingother menu options described later) and the defaultdirection is shown. Use the arrow keys to change thedirection in which you want to focus. Double-pressto select auto ZoomControl.

Access via menuTo access ZoomControl screen, press , select Zoom-Control and choose the desired direction using thearrow keys or a double-press to select auto Zoom-Control.
Press either the up or down button for 2 seconds toenter the volume control screen.
Short press middle button to access the sub-menus.
Press for 2 seconds to return to the Home screen.Returning to the Home screen will select the last usedprogram automatically.

This symbol indicates that sound is being streamedfrom one hearing instrument to the other. For examplefor telephone use hold the phone to the indicatedhearing instrument.

� ZoomControl (optional)
To access ZoomControl screen, press , select Zoom-Control and choose the desired direction using the arrowkeys. Alternatively press 2 seconds while in Homescreen to access the ZoomControl screen directly.
ZoomControl screen is not available in the“direct control”-mode.
� FlexControl (optional) / volume
With myPilot, you may set/change the volumeof each hearing instrument individually.
For hearing instruments that support FlexControl, pushingthe Up or Down button does not only change the hearinginstrument volume but adjusts your hearing instrumentsfor better understanding or more pleasantness.
For details on FlexControl/volume see page 17.

Left / right volumeTo change the volume of the left or right hearinginstrument individually, press , select Volumeand Volume left or Volume right. Change volumeusing the � or � key and press .
Reset volumeThis function resets the FlexControl and volume of bothhearing instruments to the default level as defined byyour hearing care professional during the fitting process.
To reset volume, press , select Volume, Reset volumeand Confirm.
� Lock keypad
To avoid unwanted pressing of buttons (e.g. whenmyPilot is in your pocket), you can manually lock thekeypad.
To lock the keypad, press and select Lock keypad.
To unlock the keypad, press � followed by �.

� Contact
Your hearing care professional can set visiting cardinformation such as name, phone number and address.Go to the Contact menu to always have this informationready when needed.
� Alarm clock
Set alarmTo set the alarm, press , select Alarm clock and Setalarm. Enter the alarm time, using the � or � key tochange the hours / minutes and the � or � key to turnfrom hours to minutes, and press .

If an alarm is set, thealarm symbol appears onthe Home screen nextto the clock.
Respond to alarmWhen the alarm sounds, myPilot will send an alarm signalto your hearing system (if myPilot is within 100 cm(40") of the hearing system). Additionally, myPilot itselfwill sound and show an alarm message on the screen.
Press any key on myPilot to stop the alarm. Thealarm will then be set to OFF and has to be set againif needed.
To modify the alarm time, set alarm again.
Alarm ON/OFFTo cancel a set alarm press , select Alarm clock,Alarm ON/OFF and Alarm OFF.
To (re)activate an alarm press , select Alarm clock,Alarm ON/OFF and Alarm ON.

myPilot toneYou have the possibility to turn the myPilot alarmtone ON or OFF. Press , select Alarm clock, myPilottone, and choose either ON or OFF.
myPilot will only perform the alarm whenturned ON.
The alarm will only be audible in the hearinginstruments if myPilot is within 100 cm (40") ofthe hearing instruments.
� Status information
My instrumentsYou can read out information by pressing , Statusinfo, My Instruments.
Serial numbersTo see the serial numbers of your hearing system,press , select Status info and Serial numbers.
myPilot versionTo see the version of your myPilot, press , selectStatus info and myPilot version.

Quick accessRecall a previously stored program and volume settingwith a short press of the ON/OFF button in Home screen.
By default a short press of the ON/OFF button willread out the status of your hearing instruments.Follow the steps below to change the ON/OFF buttonto Quick access and to store your current programand volume setting.
Press to go to the menu, select Settings,then Quick access then choose from the followingmenu options:
• Store prog/volSelect this point and press to store the currentprogram and volume setting.

ClockmyPilot has an internal clock which shows the timein the Home screen and when entering the sleep mode.
Set timeTo set the time, press , select Settings, Clock andSet time. Enter the time, using the � and � keysto change the hours / minutes and the � and � keys toturn from hours to minutes, and press to return.
Show/hide clockYou may choose whether or not to show the clock inthe Home screen.
To show the clock in the Home screen, press ,select Settings, Clock, Show/hide clock and Show.
To remove the clock from the Home screen, press ,select Settings, Clock, Show/hide clock and Hide.

Time formatYou may choose between 2 different time formats inwhich the clock will appear.
To choose the 12-hour format, press , selectSettings, Clock, Time format and 12-hour.
To choose the 24-hour format, press , selectSettings, Clock, Time format and 24-hour.
DatemyPilot has an internal date which is shown whenmyPilot enters the sleep mode.
Set dateTo set the date, press , select Settings, Date and Setdate. Enter the date, using the � and � keys to changethe day / month / year and the � and � keys to turnfrom days to months to years, and press .

MM/DD/YYYYDate formatYou may choose between 2 different date formats.
To choose the DD.MM.YYYY format, press , selectSettings, Date, Date format and DD.MM.YYYY.
To choose the MM/DD/YYYY format, press , selectSettings, Date, Date format and MM/DD/YYYY.
Display
Contrast To change the contrast, press , selectSettings, Display, and Contrast. In thecontrast screen use the � key to decreaseand the � key to increase the contrastlevel, and press .
Brightness To change the brightness, press , selectSettings, Display, and Brightness. In thebrightness screen use the � key to increaseand the � key to decrease the brightnesslevel, and press .

Backlight timerBy default, the backlight is lit for 20 seconds.
To change the backlight time, press , selectSettings, Display and Backlight timer and choosethe desired time (3, 5, 10, 15, 20 or 25 seconds).
When navigating in menu screens the backlighttime is automatically extended.
myPilot will briefly display a sleep mode screenbefore switching off the backlight.
Auto keypad lock
myPilot can be configured to automatically lockthe keys when switching off the backlight.
To activate the auto keypad lock, press ,Settings, Auto keypad lock and ON.
To deactivate the auto keypad lock, press ,Settings, Auto keypad lock and OFF.

Reset button (on the back of the device)
If, for some reason, myPilot becomesunresponsive, press the reset buttonon the back of the deviceas shown in the picture.No data will be lost.

Maintenance and care
Clean myPilot using a damp cloth. Never usehousehold cleaning products (washing powder,soap, etc.) or alcohol to clean the device.
When myPilot is not in use, turn it OFF and storeit safely.
Protect myPilot from excessive moisture(bathing, swimming) and heat (radiator, cardashboard). Protect it from excessive shockand vibration.

Interference with medical devicesThis device uses low-power, digitally codedtransmission to communicate to your hearinginstrument.Although unlikely, interference with medicaldevices such as pacemakers is possible.Interference should not occur with normal use,keep the device 10 cm (4”) or more from thebody. Therefore, it is recommended that pacemakerusers do not keep this device in a breast pocket.
External devices may only be connected if theyhave been tested in accordance with correspondingIECXXXXX standards.

Important points
The digitally-coded, inductive transmissiontechnology used in this device is extremely reliableand experiences virtually no interference fromother devices. It should be noted, however, that whenoperating the device near a computer terminal orother strong electromagnetic fields, it may benecessary to be at least 60 cm (24”) away to ensureproper operation. If the hearing instrument donot respond to the device because of an unusualfield disturbance, move away from the disturbingfield.
Do not use this device in locations where it isforbidden to use electronic devices.
X-ray radiation (e.g. CT scans, MRI scans) mayadversely affect the correct functioning of thisdevice. We recommend that you turn the deviceOFF before undergoing X-ray procedures andkeep it outside the room.

Your hearing instrument and this device weregiven a unique communication network code duringthe fitting. This ensures that the device will notaffect hearing instruments worn by others.
High-powered electronic equipment, largerelectronic installations and metallic structuresmay significantly reduce the operating range.
Use only original Phonak accessories.
Do not make any changes or modifications tothis device.
Opening myPilot might damage it. If problemsoccur which cannot be resolved by following theremedy guidelines in the troubleshooting sectionof this user guide, consult your hearing careprofessional.

Situation
myPilot turns OFF automatically.
myPilot becomes unresponsive.
The screen is white or dark.
