    Handset parkWhen the BIG Button phone is wall-mounted, you can hook the handseton this if you need to temporarilymove away from the phone.

    Ringing volume, tone andamplification setting

    The switches on the phone base giveyou the option to change the ringingvolume, ringing tone and incoming oroutgoing amplification.

    Indicator lightThis will flash when the phone rings.

    HandsetTo use the inductive coupler, switchyour hearing aid to the T setting.

    Installing yourBIG Button phone

    The emergency servicescan be contacted in theUK by dialling 999. Youmay also dial 112, whichis valid in any countrythat is a member of theEuropean Community.

    You may not be able tomake an emergency callin certain situations:

    • If the telephone line isdisconnected.

    • If there is a fault on theline from your phoneor on the network.

    If your BIG Button phoneis connected to a PBX(switchboard), you mayhave to dial an accessnumber before 999 tocontact the emergencyservices.

    Plan where you willput your BIG Button

    phone

    It should be within two metres of a phonesocket.

    Do not stand it oncarpets or other similarsurfaces that generatefibres as this may reducethe ringing sound andclog inside mechanisms.

    Your BIG Button phonecan be positioned inthree alternative ways:

    Flat on a table surface.

    Raised position on a tablesurface.

    Wall-mounted. See ‘Wall-mounting’ onpage 14.

    Do not cover or enclosethe phone; allow a freeflow of air to its surfaces.

    If you do not have amodern style socket, callBT on Freefone 0800 800 150 and askfor a BT engineer tocome and fit the correctsocket.

    This may be a chargeableservice.

    Your BIG Button phone isonly designed to be operatedin a normal domestic oroffice environment. It shouldnot be used in bathrooms ornear water.

    Ringer volume

    Set the volume of theringer to Either High, Low or Off.

    Ringer tone select

    Switch found on base ofphone.

    This switch allows you toselect the pitch requiredfor the ringer.

    R1: For a low pitchedtone.

    R2: For a medium pitchedtone.

    R3: For a high pitchedtone.

    Using the Amplify buttonwill increase the volume ofall sounds that enter the

    microphone, so if you can,reduce any backgroundnoise whenever you use

    this feature.Your BIG Button phone

    Switch found on base ofphone.

    Choose between eitherincoming or outgoingsettings. Incoming makesthe caller’s voice louder.Outgoing makes yourvoice louder at the otherend of the call.

    Using your BIG Button phone

    To make a call

    Lift the handset andlisten for a dialling tone.

    Dial the number yourequire.

    To end the call, replacethe handset.

    Press the REDIALbutton. The phone willautomatically redial thelast number dialled.

    Your BIG Button phonehas three ‘one-touch’memory buttons.

    These allow you to storethree numbers that maybe dialled at the touch ofa button. These shouldbe your most commonlyused numbers.

    You can store a phonenumber under each of these buttons and dialthe number by pressingjust the one button; sothere is no need to dialthe digits every time.

    To store numbers in thememory, use the STOREbutton. This is locatedunder the memory labelwhich is underneath thehandset. Push the plasticcover and label to the leftto reveal the STOREbutton and instructions.

    Each memory locationcan store a maximum of21 digits (numbers).

    Stored numbers caninclude Select Servicesusing the ✱ and #buttons, and switchboardservices that areappropriate.

    You may hear the telephone exchange say‘Please hang up and try

    again’. This message doesNOT necessarily mean your

    storing of numbers hasfailed.

    To change numbers stored in

    the memory

    To change numbersstored in the memory,simply repeat the processof storing the originalnumbers but enter thenew number. The numberstored in that location isautomatically replaced bythe new number.

    This button is used withsome network servicesOR if your phone line isconnected to aswitchboard.

    To use your Amplify button

    Press the Amplify buttonto turn amplification on.

    Amplify – and + allowsyou to select anappropriate settingbetween normal andmaximum.

    There are a total of foursettings. The standardsetting is for the amplifyto be off.

    The setting last used onAmplify will restore eachtime you turn amplify on.

    To increase theamplification press the + button.

    To decrease, press the– button.

    To return to the normalsetting, just press theamplify button again.

    The red LED will light upto show when amplify isswitched on.

    Wall-mounting

    Your BIG Button phonecan be wall-mountedusing the screws and wallplugs provided.

    Use the plinth of the BIG Button phone as yourwall-mounting template topencil on the wall a guidefor the drill holes.

    Before you wall-mountyour BIG Button phone,check that:• the wall can support

    the weight of the phone;• the position you choose

    leaves sufficient spaceso that the phone isclear of any obstructionon the wall, such as ashelf or cupboard.

    Drill two holes (diameter8mm) for the screwsvertically apart. Insertthe wall plugs provided(if required).

    Drive the screws into thewall, leaving about 5mmfree on which to hang thephone.

    Press the phone linecable into the groove onthe base of the phone, sothat the phone lies flatagainst the wall.

  • Feed the phone linethrough the bottom ofthe wall mounted plinthto allow the cable to restflat against the wall.

    Rotate the handset hook180°, so that you canhang up the handsetwhen the phone is wall-mounted.

    Hang the holes on theback of the phone overthe screwheads andgently pull the phonedownward to make sureit is securely in place.

    Technicalinformation

    All items of telephoneequipment have a RingerEquivalence Number(REN), which is used tocalculate the number ofitems that may beconnected to any onetelephone line. Your BIGButton phone has a RENof 1.5. A total REN of 4 isallowed from a singletelephone line. If the totalREN of 4 is exceeded,the telephones may notring. With differenttelephone types there isno guarantee of ringing,even when the REN isless than 4. Typically 2 or3 phones can be workingsimultaneously on theone telephone line.

    Your BIG Button phonemay be connected topublic networks in the United Kingdom.

    It may also be connectedto switching systems thatuse tone (MF) signalling,with timed break orearth recall. If in doubt,your switch supplier ormaintainer should beable to offer help. Adviceon connection to BTswitching systems can beobtained by dialling BTFreefone 0800 800 152.

    Generally your BIG Buttonphone can be connectedto any switchboardwhere a simple moderntelephone can be used tomake and receive calls.
