I along with two other residents, met with the manageron June 13th. This is the outcome of that meeting:

A new company has been hired to repair the gatesincluding the pedestrian gate. Work is expected to becompleted within 1-2 weeks.

Lights are all working in the shuffleboard area.

Tests are being done on the pool leak and are awaitingthe results.

The oleanders on Recker Road have been trimmed andcut. New timers will be put in place for watering on aregular basis.

Please remember that there are dumpsters located behind the clubhouse specificallyfor recycling: cardboard (broken down and flattened), paper, plastics (#1 & #2), cans. Please do not fill up the garbage dumpsters with these items. Do not leave glass beerbottles by the dumpsters. Your use of the recycle bins benefits the association.

A concerted effort continues to be made to locateand recognize new residents. This project hasbeen hampered because of lack of cooperationand communication from the management. Again, we are asking any resident who is aware ofa new neighbor to contact Carolyn Taylor (#127). This information is vital for a complete parkdirectory. Also, because we are a friendlycommunity, we want to make sure that newresidents are welcomed and informed about ourmany, and fun, park activities.

Thank you for your help!

The United States Declaration of Independence is the statement adopted by the Second Continental Congress

meeting at the Pennsylvania State House (now known as Independence Hall) in Philadelphia on July 4, 1776. TheDeclaration announced that the thirteen American colonies then at war with the Kingdom of Great Britain wouldregard themselves as thirteen independent sovereign states no longer under British rule. With the Declaration, these new states took a collective first step toward forming the United States of America. The declaration wassigned by representatives from New Hampshire, Massachusetts Bay, Rhode Island and Providence Plantations,Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.

The Declaration was passed on July 2 with no opposing votes. A committee of five had drafted it to be ready whenCongress voted on independence. John Adams, a leader in pushing for independence, had persuaded thecommittee to select Thomas Jefferson to compose the original draft of the document, which Congress edited toproduce the final version. The Declaration was a formal explanation of why Congress had voted on July 2 todeclare independence from Great Britain, more than a year after the outbreak of the American Revolutionary War.Adams wrote to his wife Abigail, "The Second Day of July 1776, will be the most memorable Epocha, in the Historyof America" – although Independence Day is actually celebrated on July 4, the date that the wording of theDeclaration of Independence was approved.

After ratifying the text on July 4,Congress issued the Declaration of Independence in several forms. It was initiallypublished as the printed Dunlap broadside that was widely distributed and read to the public. The source copyused for this printing has been lost and may have been a copy in Thomas Jefferson's hand. Jefferson's originaldraft is preserved at the Library of Congress, complete with changes made by John Adams and Benjamin Franklin,as well as Jefferson's notes of changes made by Congress. The best-known version of the Declaration is a signedcopy that is displayed at the National Archives in Washington, D.C., and which is popularly regarded as the officialdocument. This engrossed copy was ordered by Congress on July 19 and signed primarily on August 2.

The Memorial to the 56 Signers of the Declaration of Independence was dedicated in 1984 in Constitution Gardenson the National Mall in Washington, D.C., where the signatures of all the original signers are carved in stone withtheir names, places of residence, and occupations.

The new One World Trade Center building in New York City (2014) is 1776 feet high to symbolize the year thatthe Declaration of Independence was signed.

The oldest, continuous Independence Day celebration in the United States is the 4th of July Parade in

Bristol, Rhode Island. It began way back in 1785.

Three US Presidents have died on July 4th – John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and James Monroe.

Ironically, Adams and Jefferson, two signers of the Declaration, died the same year. One US President,

Calvin Coolidge, was born on July 4th.

Independence Day wasn’t made an official federal holiday until 1870, almost 100 years after the

Declaration of Independence was signed. In 1938, it was changed to a paid federal holiday.

Americans consume around 150 million hot dogs on the 4th of July each year. It is the biggest hot dog

holiday of the year.

Fireworks have been a major part of the 4th of July since the earliest celebrations. According to the

American Pyrotechnics Association (APA), 268.4 million pounds of fireworks are used in the US each

year, the majority of those on July 4th.

Only 2.5 million people were living in the newly created United States of America in July, 1776. Today,

the population is an estimated 325.2 million.

Happy Canada Day!

On July 1, 1867, the nation was officially born when the Constitution Act joined three provinces into one

country: Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Canada province, which then split into Ontario and Quebec.

However, Canada was not completely independent of England until 1982. The holiday called Dominion Day was

officially established in 1879, but it wasn't observed by many Canadians, who considered themselves to be

British citizens. Dominion Day started to catch on when the 50th anniversary of the confederation rolled

around in 1917. In 1946, a bill was put forth to rename Dominion Day, but arguments in the House of

Commons over what to call the holiday stalled the bill.

The 100th anniversary in 1967 saw the growth of the spirit of Canadian patriotism and Dominion Day

celebrations really began to take off. Although quite a few Canadians already called the holiday Canada Day

(Fête du Canada), the new name wasn't formally adopted until October of 1982.

Canada Day is a national statutory holiday celebrated in all provinces and territories and it is a day off for

most businesses.

Most communities across the country will host organized celebrations for Canada Day, typically outdoor

public events, such as parades, carnivals, festivals, barbecues, air and maritime shows, fireworks, and free

musical concerts, as well as citizenship ceremonies.

Happy Birthday, Canada!

If you believe that this is OK, don’t do anything. If you, like most of us here, question the choice of paint

and are appalled by this symbol at our entrance, you are encouraged to contact the management, the

on this, do not believe it.
