SNCF - GUILLAUME CRAVEUR MODERN TRENDS OF FIRE PROTECTION IN ROLLING STOCK 18 MAY 2016 - WARSAW
LIST OF MATERIALS AND COMPONENTS
In order to justify the conformity of a rolling stock concerning fire safety, a list of materials and components has to be established according to EN 45545-2.Below, the table used by SNCF:
13SNCF - GUILLAUME CRAVEUR MODERN TRENDS OF FIRE PROTECTION IN ROLLING STOCK 18 MAY 2016 - WARSAW
FIRE AND SMOKE CERTIFICATES
14
• All tests required by EN 45545 shall be carried out by laboratories accredited for these tests according to EN ISO/IEC 17025.
• Laboratories should not write validity date on certificates.
• There is no validity date in the EN 45545-2.

Small electrotechnical products : EL10
•EN 45545-1 in the scope precises that «The protection of passengers and staff is essentially based on measures to […] minimise the effects of fire in terms of heat, smoke and toxic gases on passengers or staff through the specification of materials installed on railway vehicles (Part 2)”
•Requirement R26 does not allow to respect this sentence due to the lack of smoke testing
•Grouping rules because non-listed products
•R26 + R22 for interior products
•R26 + R23 for exterior products

REQUIREMENTS ACCORDING TO STM S 001
23
• Casing : external surface of small electrical component (see IEC 60529 (or EN60529) §3.1 or IEV 826-03-12) against direct contact. This external surface reduce risk of fire to propagate from inside toward outside the electrical equipment and so to ignite other component located in it vicinity.
• Casing has to fulfil the NLI rules (Chap 4.3) in term of fire ands smoke qualification level.
• No requirement apply to parts located inside this casing .
• This proposal is due to : • very small quantity of O2 , • fire &smoke qualification of casing, • very low weight/volume of combustible
material in each casing
