History.

1871: Car inventor Carl Benz set the basis with the foundation of his "Mechanical Workshop„ in Mannheim.

1922: The company split up. The Motoren-Werke Mannheim AG, formerly Benz, "Stationary Engine Construction”evolved.

1985: Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz AG took over MWM.

2005: DEUTZ AG spun off a division known as DEUTZ Power Systems.

2007: DEUTZ sold it to the investment firm of 3i in the fall of 2007.

2008: Re-Branding to MWM.

The MWM can look back at a tradition lasting over 135 years which has always been accompanied by innovations.

Extraction and composition of biogas

ExtractionBiogas originates from the anaerobic digestion of organic matter in a digester. At the anaerobic digestion the substrate is fermented under exclusion of oxygen and with the help of microorganismsThe composition of the biogas at this time is methane, carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide and steam.Among biogas there occurs water with organic and inorganic residues in this process step

Origin and composition of biogas

SubstratesDifferent substrates from biological origin can be used for the extraction of biogas The main substrates are renewable raw materials (NaWaRo), together with agricultural refuse and manureDuring the digestion different substrates have to be handled in different ways due to variable fermentation timesAlso the methane content in the biogas can vary depending on the used substrate

Benefits of using biogas

Environmental protectionAt the combustion of biogas only the same amount of CO2occurs which the substrates absorbed during their growthElectricity from biogas also prevents emissions which otherwise will be released by fossil fuels

Making money by using biogasGeneration of electricityGeneration of heat

The heat is used for the digestion process and helps preventing additional costs for heating systemsSurrounding buildings, residential areas or industrial customerscan be supplied with heat

The village Neuhof is located in an UNESCO bioshere reservation in Western Mecklenburg-Pomerania. The TCG 2016 V16B produces 716 kWel and 730 kWth. The electrical power is directly fed into the grid and the heat is used on site. Based on some other arrangements the CHP-plant complies to the emission requirements and was displayed “CHP-plant of the month” in 11/2009 by the newspaper Energy & Management.

The biogas plant is fired with biogas out of corn silage. The corn is cultivated by farmers extra for this purpose. Before gas utilisation, it is preheated, compressed and let through an activated carbon filter. This procedure is necessary in order todry the gas and desulphurise it. This lead to smooth engine operation.

Installation/Commissioning:2006

In Mölme, near Hildesheim, a biogas plant with a generating set was built in cooperation with SEVA Energie AG. The generated electricity from renewable resources is fed into the nearby mains. The arising heat energy is mostly used by the plant itself. Thus, a maximal biogas production form the substrate is assured in the fermentation process.
