realistic drawing,
wouldn’t you say?
But there are
many ways you
can use a graphite
pencil to create
tone on a drawing.
This technique is
time consuming
and doesn’t suit
everyone.
You can also create tonal value by using a range of marks with your graphite pencils.
Create a page of
different styles of
line in Graphite
or ink to create
different tonal
scales.
Once you have your squares of line techniques, you can
experiment by putting these onto universal forms

As you get confident, add them to more
complex still life images or portraits.
