Draft Protocol – Dipping Vats – Southern PortVats are to be agitated for a minimum of 30 minutes prior to any cattle being dipped.2 Vat samples are to be collected each day that cattle are dipped.

The first sample should be obtained after agitation but prior to animals being dipped.  This will allow for monitoring the vat to ensure that all animals are dipped with the necessary level of Coumaphos.The second sample should be collected after the last animal is dipped prior to adding any water, coumaphos, or fertilizer .Sample labling needs to be standardized.  The two samples collected each day should be labeled with the same number followed by an “A” for the first sample and a “B” for the second sample.  As an example, 57A and 57B.

The date the samples are collected and the date shipped needs to be listed on the lab submission form.  This will help identify issues if there is a delay in results being obtained.Coumaphos levels need to be maintained between  0.28 – 0.30%.Corrective needs to be considered when the potosan level goes above .01%.

Fertilizer needs to be added to lower the PH & POTASAN of the vat year round. Attach file on use of fertilize. In some cases, citric acid may be used if recommended by the Vat Specialist.Vats will need to be dumped if the potasan level exceeds XXXXXXXXX
