UNIVERSITY OF SAN DIEGO TORERO TIDBITS:** USD ap-peared in the inaugural Wooden Legacy in 2007-08, head coach Bill Grier's first season, when it was called the Anaheim Classic... The Toreros dropped games to USC (60-50, Nov. 22) and South Alabama (77-55, Nov. 23), before earning a win over UC Irvine (60-57, Nov. 25)... That season USD would go on to win the WCC Tournament and advance to the NCAA Tournament where they knocked off #15 UCONN ( 70-69, OT) before falling to Western Kentucky... The Toreros would finish with an overall record of 22-14.** USD improved their home record to 2-0 with Monday's 77-70 win over Western Mich-igan... Johnny Dee scored 21 points, and got a lot of help from Jito Kok (career-best 15 points, 4 blks), Thomas Jacobs (10 points, 11 rebounds), Duda Sanadze (13 points) and Christopher Anderson (12 assists)... USD shot 55.8% from the field (24-43). The Toreros opened their home slate with a convincing 72-41 win over Florida A&M last Wednesday... Senior forward Thomas Jacobs led the attack with 14 points and 9 rebounds, and was followed by Johnny Dee (14 points) and Christopher Anderson (10 points, 6 assists)... Sophomore forward Brett Bailey pulled down a career-high 8 rebounds and Simi Faje-misin chipped in with 6 points and 5 boards... USD held a 45-17 halftime lead. ** The Toreros opened up their 2014-15 campaign with two games in the LMU Classic...USD dropped its opener to Boise State (81-75) but returned on Saturday to earn a victory over Southeast Missouri State (67-56).... The senior backcourt of Johnny Dee and Chris-topher Anderson led the way in the two games... Dee opened his senior campaign with 25 points in the loss to Boise State, and followed up with 22 points (6-12 threes) against SEMO... In Saturday's win he bombed in a 55-foot three-point heave to send the Toreros into the halftime break with a 31-28 edge... Anderson showed why he is one of the top point guards on the west coast... Against Boise State he scored 14 points and dished out 7 assists, then returned on Saturday to tally a double-double with 11 points and 11 assists while also grabbing a team-high 7 rebounds. Senior Thomas Jacobs scored 10 points and grabbed 7 rebounds against Boise State, while freshman guard Marcus Harris chipped in with 8 points in the victory as he canned 2-of-4 threes... In the 6 point loss to Boise State the Torero bench was outscored 34-12... On Saturday San Diego's bench totaled 22 points to the Redhawks 13. ** Senior guard Johnny Dee, who has been the team's leading scorer in each of his first three years, enters the Xavier game with 1,601 career points. A preseason All-WCC pick and All-WCC performer last season, he currently is third on USD's all-time scoring list, and needs 190 points to set the new mark of 1,791 points and move ahead of Brandon Johnson (1,790; 2005-10). He needs 125 points to move into second place ahead of Gyno Pomare (1,725 points; 2005-09). In his first three seasons Dee has turned in season point totals of 426 (2011-12), 511 (2012-13), and 582 (2013-14). He is USD's all-time leader in three-pointers made (269) and attempted (660), and last year ranked No. 1 in the nation in free throw percentage (.945, 120-127). He owns a career mark of .902 (286-317) from the charity stripe.** Senior point guard Christopher Anderson set the USD single season record for assists with 216 last year and also became the program's all-time leader in career dishes with 560. Through 4 games this season he has improved his school record to 596. Now with 202 career steals, he needs 39 more this season to move into USD's all-time No. 1 spot with 241 (240, Brandon Johnson, 2005-2010). In his first three seasons he has tallied the following totals for assists/steals - 156/63 (2011-12), 188/69 (2012-13), and 216/64 (2013-14). Including 4 games this season, Anderson owns 990 career points and needs just 10 points to become USD's 24th player to join the 1,000 point club. ** Last season junior center Jito Kok set the single season record for blocked shots with 63. Now with 129 career blocks (t-3rd with Dondi Bell, '87-91) four games into his junior season, he will be gunning for the Torero all-time mark of 183 (Scott Thompson, 1983-87)... He totaled a season-high 4 blocks against Western Michigan on Monday night while chipping in with a new career-high 15 points, including a solid 9-11 from the charity stripe.

TOREROS TRAVEL TO ITALY: The USD basketball team combined academics and athletics in a unique basketball trip to Italy this past summer. NCAA teams are allowed to take an international sum-mer trip every four years and the Toreros hadn't been out of the country since 2010 when they went to Vancouver, BC. USD left August 12th for an 11-day day trip to Europe and besides playing three games, the Toreros combined this trip through USD's study abroad program. The team spent the bulk of the summer taking a religion course, Early Christianity, with USD Theology & Religious Studies Professor Florence Gillman. She traveled with the team to Italy and the players continued the learning process via tours, by recording what they saw by way of photos, and by keeping a journal. The players all took a final exam before returning home. The group visited Rome, Naples, Florence and Pompeii. USD also conducted a youth skills clinic on a Navy base in Naples.

SCOUTING THE XAVIER MUSKETEERS: The Muskateers improved to 4-0 on the season with Monday's 89-62 win over Murray State... Xavier jumped out to an 11-0 lead and held a 52-32 halftime lead... Senior Matt Stainbrook and freshman Trevon Bluiett each scored 19 points... Other wins have come against Stephen F. Austin (81-63, Nov. 21), Long Beach State (97-74, Nov. 18) and Northern Arizona (93-60, Nov. 14)... Bluiett is a 6-6 forward from Indianapolis and leads the team in scoring at 18.3 ppg... Stainbrook is a 6-10 center and is averaging 17.0 ppg and 7.5 rpg... The Musketeers are averaging 90.0 points per game and giving up just 64.8 points to its opponents... Head Coach Chris Mack returns 2 starters and 6 letterwinners back from last year's squad that finished 21-13 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament (1st rd loss to NC State, 74-59)... Coach Mack is in his 6th year and has directed the Musketeers to the NCAA Tourney four times, including the Sweet Sixteen twice (2010, 2012).

2014 DIRECTV Wooden Legacy Field and Matchups: The USD Toreros will be one of eight teams competing in the 2014 DIRECTV Wooden Legacy Nov. 27-30... San Diego will host Western Michigan on November 24th in a non-bracketed contest before taking on Xavier on Thursday, November 27th in the 1:30 p.m. contest (ESPN2). On Friday, November 28th, the Toreros will face either Princeton or UTEP with the two game times listed as 12:30 pm (ESPN2) and 2:30 pm (ESPN3). Games on Thursday and Friday will be held at Titan Gym on the campus of Cal State Fullerton. All teams are off on Saturday, November 29th, with the tournament wrapping up on Sunday, December 1st, with all games being played at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. USD's final opponent will be one of the four remaining teams in the tournament - Long Beach State, Western Michigan, San Jose State, or Washington. TORERO RECORD WATCH: USD Toreros Men’s Basketball sign Alex Floresca to NLI

(San Diego, Calif.) - University of San Diego men’s basketball head coach Bill Grier and his staff are excited to an-nounce that Alex Floresca has signed a national letter of intent and scholarship agreement for the upcoming 2015-16 school year.

Floresca is a 6’8”, 230 lb. forward from Webster Groves, Missouri. He is cur-rently in his senior year at Webster High School where he plays for coach Jay Blossom. He is expected to play power forward for the Toreros.

“Getting Alex away from all the Midwest schools that were recruiting him, par-ticularly the Missouri Valley schools, is a credit to the job Mike Burns did,” said head coach Bill Grier. “Alex is as physically tough as any high school player I’ve ever recruited. He enjoys contact and plays the game extremely hard, partic-ularly the way he posts up, rebounds and defends. He give us an enforcer on the interior at both ends of the floor. I know our fans will appreciate the way he plays the game”.

Floresca returns for his senior season at Webster with an already impressive resume. He is a 2-time First Team All-Suburban South Conference selection and was named as the league’s preseason conference player of the year. Last season he also earned all-district honors after averaging 12.1 points and 7.5 rebounds while converting 72.0% from the field. His play helped propel Webster to a sectional appearance in last year’s state playoffs. Webster finished 24-5, won the Conference Championship and the Class 5 District 4 Championship. In the District Championship final against Kirkwood, Floresca totaled 20 points and 8 rebounds in the 65-56 victory.

Floresca has also competed with the Gateway AAU program out of St. Louis where he was coached by Scott Schroepfer.
