Rest assured – there are many support services and resources available to you. The Your First Year module on Blackboard is designed to help you every step of the way. Visit online.usc.edu.au and click Your First Year.
Get your student ID card Visit usc.edu.au/idcard for instructions to submit your photo. We’ll create your card and then let you know when and where you can collect it.
Monday 15 JulyYour Student Guild Orientation Market Day and Academic Study Skills SessionsIn addition to stalls and live entertainment, there are several activities and sessions during Market Day that will help you prepare for study. These sessions will equip you with the academic, research and IT literacy skills to get you off to a great start. You can also learn more about the support services provided at USC and how to access them.
Tuesday 16 and Wednesday 17 JulyYour discipline specific (School-based) Essential Program Information SessionsYou’ll find out details of what you’ll be studying, meet your teaching staff and hear from some current students studying your program. You’ll learn about your program structure and requirements, what’s covered in your lectures and tutorials, and how your program can help you achieve your career and study goals.
• Tuesday 16 July: School of Education, School of Health and Sport Sciences, School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Paramedicine, and the School of Science and Engineering
• Wednesday 17 July: School of Communication and Creative Industries, School of Social Sciences, USC Business School, and the School of Law and Criminology

During Orientation, parking is on us!Every other day, USC Sunshine Coast is a PAID PARKING AREA. You must purchase a permit Monday–Friday, 8am–6pm all year (excluding public holidays). Sunshine Coast Council regulate all parking areas at USC and will issue infringements if you do not have a permit. Make sure you check out usc.edu.au/parking for parking options on campus and visit usc.edu.au/transport to find out how you can travel to uni sustainably.

Sessions explainedCampus Tours: Join in on a campus tour! Campus tour guides are current students who are here to help make your transition into university life smooth and enjoyable.
Critical thinking for assignments: An introduction to critical thinking and reading for university studies. At university, the ability to critically analyse the texts you read is often an important component of a wide variety of assessment items.
Discover the Library: Discover the world of academic information. Library staff will demonstrate the value of all that can be found through the library’s virtual and physical spaces.
Enrolment assistance: Need help enrolling in your courses? Drop by anytime to get help sorting out your timetable before classes begin.
Intro to Blackboard: Get a head start in this hands-on session, learn how to use Blackboard, navigate your course information and find useful resources.
IT Essentials: Find out about USC IT systems, including Blackboard and USC Central. Access your student email, get connected to WIFI and find out about IT services available..
Manage your progression: Understand your program structure and plan your remaining courses in order to graduate.
Reading, listening and notetaking: An introduction to identifying essential information and taking effective notes in class and while you study.
Referencing basics: Create the most common entries in a reference list and use in-text references appropriately.
School of Education Blue Card application station: Education students must obtain a Blue Card prior to commencing supervised professional experience. Apply in person at the Blue Card stall during Orientation. (Tuesday 16 July from 11am-1pm)
Study Overseas overview: Would you like to travel overseas and experience different cultures, all while earning credit towards your USC degree? If you are an enrolled domestic or international student studying a full degree program, you may be eligible to study overseas!
Time and task management: Being able to manage your time effectively and efficiently is crucial to success at university, but everybody has a different combination of commitments they have to juggle. Finding the right balance, and sticking as far as possible to a plan, are the key strategies that successful students use.
From 9.15am Welcome to USC! Enjoy a warm welcome (and free pancake breakfast!) from USC staff and student volunteers. Kick off the week by collecting your Welcome Bag filled with essential goodies to help you prepare for the Semester ahead. Have a chat to the people in the blue Orientation shirts and don’t be afraid to ask questions, they are students too and here to help you make the most of your Orientation week and settling in to life at USC.

9.30–10.30am Headstart Orientation We know it is not always possible to get time-off from school during the school day. So, if you can’t come for the whole day, just be sure to arrive for your special Headstart Program Orientation session. On top of your Headstart Orientation session you are encouraged to attend activities running throughout the day, including the study skills sessions. We highly recommend: Reading, Listening and Notetaking.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS: If you are studying the Diploma of General studies or a Study Abroad semester, you should attend one of the compulsory International Orientation sessions on the discipline specific (school-based) days. We recommend that you attend on the day which the majority of your course sits within.
