USB Mass Storage Class driver software is not pre-installed. In this case, see the

following technical information Web site by Apple computer and install the driver

software. http://til.info.apple.com/techinfo.nsf/artnum/n60394.

2) Mac OS X also supports the USB MSR with the standard built-in driver. But current

version of Mac OS 10.0.4 has a problem, which you could not un-mount Memory Stick.

Now, we do the solution work together with Apple computer. The updated information for

3 . 1 . Installation

1) Mac, which is pre-installed Mac OS 8.6, 9.0, 9.1 or 9.2.

The USB MSR works with the standard built-in driver of Mac OS. Therefore, it is not

necessary to install the driver software. Just connecting USB cable to your Mac and

then inserting a Memory Stick, the icon of removable disk will appear on the desktop.

2) Mac, which is pre-installed Mac OS 8.1 or 8.5.

If you have iMac which is pre-installed Mac OS .8.1 or 8.5, you have to upgrade the OS

to Mac OS 8.6 or later.

If you use Mac OS 8.6, please download and install the USB Mass Storage Class driver

software made by Apple computer from a following Apple computer Web site that

http://til.info.apple.com/techinfo.nsf/artnum/n60394.

Note: If you have Mac which is pre-installed Mac OS 8.6 such as iBook, iMac DV, etc.

You don’t need download the driver, because USB Mass Storage Class driver had already

pre-installed on your Mac.

If you use Mac OS 9.0 or 9.1, you don’t need download driver also, because the USB

Mass Storage Class driver already build-in to the Mac OS.

3) If you use Mac OS 9.0.2 or Mac OS 9.0.3.

According to the report from Apple computer, connecting a USB unit to Mac OS 9.0.2 or

Mac OS 9.0.3 may cause that the computer does not response when stating up a system.

Please update to your Mac OS 9.0.4 or 9.1. For the details of this information, please

refer to the following Tech Info Library ID 25139 by Apple computer.

http://til.info.apple.com/techinfo.nsf/artnum/n25139

3 . 2 . Operating Method

1) Insertion of a Memory Stick (Mount operation)

2) Ejecting the Memory Stick (Un-mount operation)

Important Note: This unit does not support the Door Lock Mechanism or the Auto-eject

Mechanism. When ejecting the media, pull out a memory stick from MSR by hand after

below operations and confirm the icon disappearance on the desktop.

Un-mounting operation

Drag the removable disk icon to the Trash and then

dropping it on the Trash while reverse color of Trash Icon.

Or single click the removable disk icon and select [Eject]

from the Finder [Special] menu.

Un-mount operating is completed, above message can be appeared in Mac OS 9.0 and

9.1. When ejecting a Memory Stick from the MSR, the message will be disappeared

automatically.

Do not remove the Memory Stick except as outline above! If you remove the Memory

Stick without un-mounting operation, it may cause hang up or a damage of data in the

Memory Stick.

3) Plug-in/Unplug the USB Cable.

You can plug-in USB cable at any time when you needed. But, you have to do the un-

mounting operation before un-plug the USB cable according explanation 2).

Do not un-plug without un-mounting operation, it may cause hang up or damage of data

in the Memory Stick.

4) Sleep Mode

USB MSR supports sleep mode of Mac, but we recommended to un-mount operation a

Memory Stick before in the sleep mode. And it may cause the trouble with sleep

operation, depending on version of Mac OS or a type of Mac. In this case, un-mount and

then un-plug the USB cable before entering sleep mode.

Make sure not to insert / eject the media and plug-in / unplug the USB cable in the sleep.

Especially the notebook type Mac wakes up automatically when plug-in / unplug the

USB cable in sleep, so it causes the unintended battery consumption or hard disk spin-

up.

When carrying Mac, make sure to un-mount all media and unplug the USB cable.

3 . 3 . Restrictions for Macintosh

1) Initialize (formatting) a Memory Stick.

If you have a digital camera, do not initialize (formatting or erasing) on Macintosh.

Please format with your digital camera. When you format a Memory Stick on Macintosh,

some digital cameras may be unable to use it. If you want format on Mac, you have to

select the DOS format. Do not select Mac OS Standard or ProDOS format for Memory

Stick.

2) This unit does not have the auto-eject mechanism. When ejecting a Memory Stick, do

un-mount operation and then pull out a Memory Stick from the MSR by hand.

3) It is impossible to start-up (booting) Mac OS from Memory Stick.

4) If you plug the USB MSR into USB hub, you have to use self-powered hub that includes

an AC adapter. MSR needs 200mA of electric power supply from the USB port. The bus-

powered hub without AC adapter may not work because of the shortage of electric

power.

5) Don’t connect MSR to the USB port on the keyboard.

6) Reset your Macintosh, if your Macintosh freezes or hung up.

Be sure to select

DOS Format.

5 . Windows Millennium Edition (Me) and Windows 2000

5 . 1 . Installation

USB MSR works with both Windows Me and 2000 built-in driver made by Microsoft

Corporation. Therefore, no additional driver is necessary and the attached driver CD-ROM

is not used for installation.

1) Start a PC and waiting until Windows starts up completely.

2) Plug the USB MSR and the USB port of a PC by an attached USB cable. Windows will

detect the USB MSR and some necessary files are installed automatically.

3) A new Removable Disk will appear in the “My Computer” folder. In the figure below, the

USB MSR can be accessed as Removable disk drive (E:). The drive letter such as (E:)

changes with each computer environment.

6 . Restrictions for Windows 98, Windows Me and Windows 2000

1) USB Hub

USB MSR needs 200 mA of power supply from a USB port. When connecting the MSR to

a USB hub, use a self-powered hub attaching an AC adapter. Make sure not to connect

the MSR to the bus-powered hub such as the USB port on the keyboard. The Bus

powered hub may not have enough electric power to operate the USB MSR.

2) Starting-Up (Booting)

You cannot boot your computer from the USB MSR.

3) Stand-by

USB MSR supports the stand-by modePC99 standard. However, it may cause errors at

the stand-by mode according to each type of PC in use. In this case, disconnect the USB

MSR before stand-by.

4) Ejecting a Memory Stick.

Be sure that the access LED is OFF, and then pull out a Memory Stick. Even if it seems

that the copy is completed on the screen of Windows, it may be under access by CHASE

of OS.

When using Windows 2000, please wait at least 30 seconds after last access LED off,

because Windows 2000 sometime re-write file allocation table (FAT) for date-up of last

access time.

See knowledge base of Microsoft Corporation for more detail.
