Vilseck Veterinary Treatment Facility – Limited Appointments 1 June: Due to an unexpected departure of their military veterinarian, as well as the long-term absence of their civilian

veterinarian, the Vilseck Veterinary Treatment Facility (VTF) must reduce its appointment availability beginning on 1 June. Until a new military veterinarian arrives, which likely won't be until September, appointment times will be limited; however, appointments for health certificates and vaccinations necessary for PCS travel will be prioritized. Pets requiring surgery or sick-call visits will be referred to off-post services or other military veterinary clinics. The VTF will open during normal operating hours for questions, clearing, registration and over-the-counter sales, with hours being: 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. & 1-4 p.m., Monday-Thursday; and 9:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. &1 - 4 p.m. on Fridays. Appointments can be made or questions answered by calling the VTF front desk at 476-2370.

ACAP Presents Boots to Business workshop 3 & 4 June: Boots to Business is an entrepreneurial education program offered by the U.S. Small Business

Administration (SBA) as an elective track within the Department of Defense's revised Transition Assistance Program called Transition Goals, Plans, Success (Transition GPS). The curriculum provides valuable assistance to transitioning service members exploring self-employment opportunities by leading them through the key steps for evaluating business concepts and the foundational knowledge required for developing a business plan. Participants are also introduced to SBA resources available to help access startup capital and additional technical assistance. Boots to Business is delivered in partnership with SBA Resource Partners and the Institute for Veterans and Military Families. It is available free of charge at participating installations to service members and their dependents transitioning or retiring from the U.S. military. The program consists of three parts: The Entrepreneurship Track Overview; Introduction to Entrepreneurship two day course; and Foundations of Entrepreneurship Course. Instructors will be civilians (professors, SBA employees, practitioners or those part of the SBA cooperative agreement) coming to Europe to provide the "Boots to Business" Workshop. Postal Service Centers adjust hours for one day only 6 June: Adjusted service hours on Friday, 6 June 2014, the Rose & Tower Barracks Postal Service Centers will open at

1330 due to a mandatory Safety Day Training. In addition patrons may experience a temporary delay in services due to the reduced staff levels. We apologize for any inconveniences and thank you for your patience and understanding.

Tower Barracks Express to Change Hours Beginning July 7, the Tower Barracks Express, located across from the Burger King, will no longer be open 24 hours daily. The new hours will be Sunday to Thursday, 5 a.m. to midnight, and Friday and Saturday, 5 a.m. to 2 a.m. The change was made due to limited sales during late-night operations. If vacation travel is on your schedule, please plan accordingly: fill up the night before hitting road; ensure your ESSO card has funds to buy gas off post. We appreciate your understanding.

Increased wait times at heavy-traffic agencies The high turn-over season is upon us, and with it comes more people. As personnel overlap between in-processing and out-processing, longer than normal lines and wait times in some of our customer service areas can be expected. Heavy-traffic areas where all personnel must go when either in-processing or out-processing are more susceptible to these longer wait times. Please plan ahead to ensure you have time to conduct your business.

DFAS – Military Service Earnings / Buy Back Estimator The Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) has created a "Military Service Earnings/Buy Back Estimator" tool to assist employees in estimating the cost of buying back military time when applying towards civilian retirement. The tool is located on the DFAS website at: http://www.dfas.mil/civilianemployees/militaryservice/militaryservicedeposits/estimator.html. This tool projects estimated earnings and the estimated cost of buying back military service time. This gives employees an unofficial estimate of their military earnings and the estimated cost of buying back military service time, if they make that decision. If an employee chooses to pursue buying back the military time after using the estimator, they must still follow the steps outlined on the ABC-C website. Employees should use ABC-C for questions they may have about buying back military time. They can visit the ABC-C website, www.abc.army.mil, or call the ABC-C toll free telephone number, 877-276-9287.

Foreign travel requirements when attending WWII liberation events We have some great opportunities to participate in World War II liberation ceremonies during the D-Day remembrance, in Normandy, France, on 6 June. But please remember: If you have a clearance, you are required to report all foreign travel (official as well as personal) to your security manager/S2. Official participants are also required to submit an Aircraft & Personnel Automated Clearance System (APACS) request. Unfortunately, APACS doesn’t interface with security clearance systems, so you will still need to report foreign travel to your unit security manager/S2. For U.S. servicemembers/civilian employees attending these ceremonies, the Department of Defense Electronic Foreign Clearance Guide (FCG) https://www.fcg.pentagon.mil/fcg.cfm outlines any special travel requirements (usually, APACS isn’t required). And please remember to report travel plans to your security manager.

While you are enjoying these historic events, please remain aware of your surroundings. If you see something out of place or anything that makes you concerned, move away from the area and report it immediately. Have a safe and enjoyable time celebrating the U.S. military’s role in helping to free millions of people during a time of war.

Vehicle Registration wait times Due to employee illness, a busy PCS season and reintegration of the 2nd Cavalry Regiment, long lines are expected at the vehicle registration office. We are working hard to get additional counter people to help shorten the time you have to wait. Please be patient as we work through this and plan accordingly.

Laundry appointments for TCP Vilseck Due to the high volume and high workload at the Troop Collection Point Laundry and Dry Cleaning Services in Vilseck, it is highly recommended to make appointments for drop off to avoid long waiting times. To make an appointment call DSN 476-3026, CIV 09662-83-3026. It is also advised that Soldier use the TCP Hohenfels if possible. It is in Hohenfels Training Area, Bldg. 323, DSN 466-2862.

Bulk Trash Pick-Up The County Neustadt/WN will pick up bulk trash over the next few months. Bulk trash must be curbside, in front of your home no later than 6 a.m. on the scheduled pick-up day. Pick-up is provided by contractors of the County Neustadt. Please note that pick-ups will occur in 3 stages based on types of items.

What will be picked up? Everything, that is too big or too heavy to go into the normal refuse container, such as: Furniture, mattresses, carpets, washing machines, dryers, radios, TVs, ovens, stoves, bicycles, strollers, and other items which cannot be dismantled, torn or broken down to a size that would fit in the regular refuse container. Each single item should be no larger than 80x40x32 inches and should not be heavier than 110 lb. Bulk trash consisting of metal (i.e. bicycles, washers, dryers, stoves, etc.) and electronic equipment (such as large appliances, small appliances, cooling devices, information & telecommunications including entertainment equipment) should be put out separately next to the normal bulk trash. What will not be picked up?

Netzaberg Express New Summer Hours 14 June – 22 August: The Netzaberg Express will be switching to its New Summer Hours starting 14 June – 22

August. Only change is Monday thru Friday: 1 pm to 7 pm. Weekends, no change, Saturday: 8 am to 7 pm and Sunday:

Closed. Once school starts back, the hours will adjust back to early morning opening. Customers are encouraged to use the Tower Barracks 24 hrs. Express for their needs prior to 1 pm opening of Netzaberg. We ask customers to plan accordingly.

AAFES websites unaffected by Heartbleed vulnerability Army & Air Force Exchange Service customers and vendors have expressed concern about security of their information in light of reports about the Heartbleed security flaw. The Exchange’s online shopping site, shopmyexchange.com, and business partner site, partners.aafes.com, have not been compromised by the Heartbleed security flaw, a vulnerability found in servers that allows hackers to see and collect traffic passing between a server and a web browser once a secure connection is established. “Because of proactive updates and monitoring, all our systems have been protected,” said Philip Stevens, Exchange Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer. “The Exchange is continually updating its systems to protect against security flaws such as Heartbleed, and protecting military shoppers’ personal information remains a priority.” If Exchange shoppers are concerned about the safety of their data on other web sites, they can protect themselves from the security flaw by changing online passwords for personal banking, shopping, email and social networks. Shoppers are also advised to closely monitor credit cards and bank statements for unknown or fraudulent transactions.

Hohenfels Car Care Center New Hours as of 1 June The Hohenfels Car Care Center and Gas Station will have new hours starting 1 June. Monday thru Friday: 7 am to 7 pm and Saturday/Sunday: 8 am to 5 pm. Customers will now have the opportunity to shop inside the Car Care for automotive needs as well as fuel their POVs all during the same hours.

Tower Barracks Main Store Couponers Corner The Tower Barracks Main Store has a special corner in the customer service area for those that like to use coupons. Exchange Main Store Manager Ed Hicks stated this has been a big hit with the community. The corner provides coupons and information to help customers understand the use of coupons and how long they can be used overseas.

Tower Barracks Car Care Center to Close

The Tower Barracks Car Care Center will be closing on May 23. All your car care needs will be available at the Rose Barracks Car Care Center located in building 718, near the MWR Auto Skill Center. You can call for appointments at 09662-9741. Coming this summer at the old Tower Barracks Car Care Center, will be an Auto Detailing Concessions. Customers have asked for this for assisting in shipping their POVs and a place to have their auto’s detailed during their tour of duty.

Exchange Protection Program Ever bought a TV or computer and something happens after the typical manufacture warranty has expired and you’re stuck with taking it to a repair shop, not knowing the cost? Well, you got protection, when you purchase a TV or computer or many other items at your Exchange. You have the option to purchase the Exchange Protection Program. Depending on the plan, you can be protected for 2 years or more. While overseas, the plan doesn’t require you to go to a service center and have the item checked out if fixable. Just call the number, tell them what happen, give the information from your protection program receipt and you will have a check sent to your APO for the amount of the purchase item. Red Cross looking for CPR instructors We are looking for CPR course instructors. If you are interesting in becoming a Red Cross certified CPR/First Aid/AED course instructor, you must already have a valid CPR/FA/AED certification card and must be able to teach 3 classes over the next 12 months. The American Red Cross is looking for qualified Volunteer Health and Safety Instructors for our community. Call today to see if you qualify. Child Find: What is child-find screening? Preschool Child Find is a developmental screening for children ages 3-5 identifying children with developmental delays or other special education needs. What is the process? A Child Find team made up of the preschool special needs service provider, speech and language pathologists and the occupational therapist screen the children for developmental delays. These free screenings take place monthly. How does it work? Parent submits the Child Find questionnaire (which they can pick up in the office or find on the school website); they are set up with an appointment for the screening. When they come in for the screening the child must first pass a vision and hearing screen by our school nurse. Then they are screened by the team. If the child is suspected of having any delays the team will refer them for further formal evaluation. Why is it important? When learning challenges are identified at a young age, early intervention can help the child with learning tasks. If parents are interested, what do they need to do? They can go to the school’s website and find the link for Child Find. Under that link is a questionnaire they need to fill out and email back to the email address provided on the form. "Good Fairy" Campaign for Children 6 June: 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., in 92637 Weiden, all around the historical city hall in the Altstadt = old city. The goal of this

campaign is to get children to know and trust the emergency services. They need to feel safe when they see a police officer, a doctor, or a fire fighter. Therefore, the Polizei, the Weiden fire brigade, the Bavarian Red Cross and the THW (technical relief) will be at the historic Rathaus (city hall) with their equipment and their vehicles. The children will be shown what kind of help they will get from these institutions. Stores with a "Good Fairy" logo are trained to provide first aid in case anyone ever gets hurt. New Orleans Festival 6-8 June: in 90762 Fürth, at the Fürther Freiheit (10 km / 6 miles west of Nürnberg). A little bit of the Southern State's

flair is lighting up Fürth's atmosphere this weekend. Several live bands will entertain you while you're enjoying your delicious Cajun food (or at least a German attempt at it). FYI: most Germans shy away from really hot food and restaurateurs usually accommodate this, so you may need to add some spicy sauces (which should be available) to make their attempt at Cajun food more authentic. It is highly recommended you use their public transport system: Best use the Park-and-Ride car park "Hardhöhe" along Solderstraße / Gaußstraße. From here, the U-Bahn (underground) will take you to the city center in just four minutes. Exit either at "Rathaus“ or "Fürth Hauptbahnhof“. The P+R car park has 78 spaces, 2 of which are for handicapped; If you park there 6 a.m.-6 p.m., you will not be charged for the first four hours. Parking in excess of four hours costs 1.50 Euros total for the whole day ("Tagespauschale"). You can reach the P+R car park from the B8 (Würzburger Straße) when you drive in the "Stadtmitte" (city center) direction, then turn right at Soldnerstraße and continue to corner Gaußstraße.

Funfair: Volksfest – Pfingstdult 6 – 15 June: in 92224 Amberg at the Dultplatz on Bruno-Hofer-Straße. The grand opening begins at 5:30 p.m. with

music and Freibier (you all know what that is, right?) at the Schiffbrücke bridge downtown Amberg. At 6:30 p.m., the traditional "Braufahrt" (boat trip) sets off towards the Dultplatz. At 8 p.m., the first keg will be tapped in the fest tent. A small car park is on the other side of Bruno-Hofer-Straße (south of the fest site) but it is easier if you park on the large Siemens car park along Georg-Hillbenz-Straße. Alternatively, you can park at the Eishalle (ice-skating rink) at Am Schanzl 1, or a little further down the road (i.e. closer to the fest site) at the tennis court, Am Schanzl 5.

rides and lots of activities like fireworks on the first and last days, a family day, a "Miss Volksfest" pageant, or even a boxing event make this Volksfest a great attraction for the whole family.

Fest: "Gänsanger" Fest 7-8 June: in 92237 Sulzbach-Rosenberg, Hauptstraße, at fountain near the "Kurzmühle" mill. The German word

"Anger" has nothing to do with the English "anger"; instead, it refers to the village green, a site in a village or on its outskirts where fests and similar events were held. The Gänsanger (Goose Green) used to be a meeting place for all Rosenberger residents in the past, and this fest is in memory of the now lost site. Fest opens Saturday at 3 p.m., Sunday at 10 a.m.

Gardening Days 7-9 June: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., in 92339 Beilngries at the Sulzpark along An der Sulz street (45 km / 28 miles SW of

Hohenfels). The park where the Gartentage (only in GE) are held has its name from the little creek Sulz which zigzags through the city. All around the park, vendors have put up their stalls with lovely plants, beautiful accessories, and everything else you might need for gardening. Of course there will be plenty of food and drinks, too. Children have their own little play area with an inflatable jumping castle, a play-along circus, a small train, and camel riding! Admission is € 7 per person, children under 16 are free.

Historical Fest: Crana Historica 7-9 June: in 96317 Kronach, at the Festung Rosenberg = castle (60 km / 37 miles NE of Bamberg, or 45 km / 28 miles

north of Bayreuth). This is a huge fest where Kronach (Latin name: "Crana") celebrates its rich history. A medieval market will be set up where you can find numerous crafted goods: from decorations, medieval-style clothes, jewelry, leatherwares, toys, all the way to helmets, swords, battle axes, armour, music instruments, and other equipment necessary for re-enactments. But that's not all. Of course there will be plenty of stalls selling typical food as would have been served a few centuries ago; as well as bread, smoked fish, sweets, honey products, wine, met, liqueurs, and the specially brewed "Rollsalvenbier" (beer). All day long, the groups from the field camp will entertain you with show fights, shooting competitions (bow and arrow), singing monks, fire-eaters, jugglers, and much more! You might even be allowed to put on an authentic chain mail and helmet. The best part, however, are the performers at the big concerts over the weekend. The homepage shows you some video clips and photos - just disregard the German text. You can also buy concert tickets online.

Antiques Market 8 June: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., in 93047 Regensburg, in the historical Altstadt (city center). The Antiques Market is host to 300

international vendors from Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Czech, Hungary, and Belgium who offer antiques from various periods. Only genuine, high-quality antiques will be on sale; knickknacks, reproduced art, or new goods are not allowed. The market stretches from Maximilianstraße, Schwarze Bärenstraße, Königstraße, Fröhliche-Türken-Straße, Weiße-Lilien-Gasse,Viereimerplatz, Kassiansplatz, Pfauengasse, Drei-Helm-Gasse all the way to Neupfarrplatz.

Tradition: Historischer Schäfertanz = Historical Shepherds Dance 8 June: at 11:30 a.m. and 1:45 p.m., in 91541 Rothenburg on Marktplatz around the Rathaus = City Hall. Especially in

the Middle Ages, sheep farming and the wool trade played an important part in the life of the town. In 1517, the Shepherds Guild was granted the privilege of celebrating Shepherds Dance with music and dancing. More about the origins of this tradition can be seen in the Shepherds Dance Cabinet in St.-Wolfgang's-Church. In remembrance of this custom, visitors have several opportunities every year to see the dance of the colourful couples in the market square.

Pfingstmontag = Pentecost Monday = German holiday 9 June: All German stores and authorities off-post are closed, as are all on-post facilities (non-food) with a

predominantly local national workforce.

Fest: Seefest = Lake Fest 9 June: 10 a.m. – 11 p.m., in 91278 Pottenstein (in the beautiful Fränkische Schweiz), at Lake Schöngrundsee. The

lake is at the leisure area with the summer toboggan, just on the outskirts of Pottenstein and next to the quaint restaurant where you can buy fresh smoked trout.

Medieval Knights Camp and Fayre 12-15 June: in 85662 Hohenbrunn near München / Munich, in and around the barn at Halle K, Siegertsbrunner Straße

103 (20 km / 12 miles SE of München / Munich). Hohenbrunn is celebrating its 1200-year anniversary and looks back on its history with this Medieval Camp and Fayre. Watch knights, traders, jugglers, dancers, and musicians turn back the time. Join them! Or have a look at their Facebook page.

Fest: Pfingstausklang 13 June: 7 p.m., in 91541 Rothenburg, on the fest site at the Galgentor gate, at car park P4. Click for a map of

suggested car parks. The local restaurateurs invite everyone to end the Whitsun days with this fest with live music.

Fest: Altstadtfest 13-15 June: in 92318 Neumarkt, along Obere and Untere Marktstraße (45 km / 28 miles west of Hohenfels). Taste the

various delicacies that are on offer and enjoy a diverse program on the 5 open-air stages set up around the market streets. The Residenzplatz, in the meantime, will be turned into a huge playground for kids. Start times have not been specified.

Medieval Fayre: "Hexentanz & Feenzauber" 13-15 June: in 93053 Regensburg at Schloss Pürkelgut (mansion), Einhauser Straße 2. Jugglers, bards, and

merchants will take you back into a time of knights and aristocrats. One of the highlights at this fayre will be a romantic lantern parade, which ends with a big, fascinating "Sonnwendfeuer", the mystical fires that celebrate summer equinox. And of course there will be tournaments and jousting on horseback (performed by trained stuntmen). Opening hours are Friday from 4 p.m. – midnight, Saturday 2 p.m. – 1 a.m. and Sunday from 12 – 8 p.m.

Roses in Bloom 13-29 June: on the Isle of Mainau (78465) in the Bodensee (Lake Constance). Beautiful, fragrant roses in the Italian

Rose Garden, reaching as far as the eyes can see. Every visitor gets to vote for his or her favourite rose to become "Rosenkönigin 2013". You can find more info about the isle on their Homepage, available in both English and German. The isle is open from sunrise to sunset but the exhibits (museum in the palace, butterfly show, etc.) won't open until 09:00 or 10:00 respectively. Although the Bodensee is a bit far from Northern Bavaria (i.e., on the Swiss border), it's certainly worth the trip. While you're in the area, why not visit the "Pfahlbauten-Museum" (Lake Dwelling Museum) in Unteruhldingen on Strandpromenade 6 (part of 88690 Uhldingen-Mühlhofen)? Dive into the mysterious world of farmers, fishermen, and brass founders of the Stone Age 6000 years ago, and be a witness to the lifestyle of the Bronze Age 3000 years ago. Fest: Fischerfest 14-15 June: in 92249 Vilseck, at the Ziegelanger fest site. Fresh and smoked fish that you can't find any better,

presented in a little fest with entertainment and more good food. The fest starts on Saturday at 4 p.m., and on Sunday at 6 a.m. with some early fishing.

Neither start time nor location have been specified on Eschenbach's homepage but more than likely, the fest is held at the fishponds alongside the road "Am Feuerwehrhaus" - see green arrow on this map. The best activities ought to take place in the afternoon.

Street Market: Dreifaltigkeits-Markt 14-15 June: 10 a.m., in 91327 Gößweinstein, along Viktor-von-Scheffel-Straße (about 10 km / 6 miles west of

Pottenstein, in the beautiful Fränkische Schweiz). It is recommended you park at the public car park behind Pezoldstraße 24. Alternatively, you can go to the cemetery car park behind the basilica, at Viktor-von-Scheffel-Straße 5. Customers of the Hotel zur Krone can also park behind the hotel, at Viktor-von-Scheffel-Straße 1.

Historical Market 15 June: 10:30 a.m., in 91320 Ebermannstadt, in the subdivision Unteres Scheunenviertel, Am Kirchenwehr (35 km /

20.5 miles SE of Bamberg). Traditional craftsmen and artisans display their goods and let you see how their work gets done. Or go down to the train station at Bahnhofsplatz for a unique ride on an old steam train (every full hour). The organizers even have an English homepage!

It begins with a festive parade by the Guild of Marksmen (Schützengilde) that leads them from the so-called "Schießhäuschen" via Ludwigstraße, Altstadt (old city), Bismarckstraße, Friedrichstraße and Konrad-Adenauer-Platz all the way to Lessingstraße where the official "Schlappen-Bierfest" begins. Here in Lessingstraße, the specially brewed "Schlappenbier" is served - it's brewed for this day alone!
