Taking an early morning stroll in the company gardens is a great way to start your weekend. The park is a 5 minute walk from 220Loop and it’s the perfect place to ease your way into the day.
The Company Gardens is well-maintained and visitors love spending time exploring the garden, admiring its array of monuments and statues, or just being in nature and absorbing the beauty around them. Skinny Laminx is the brainchild of local designer, Heather Moore. You’ll find her at the top of the store in the design studio where she dreams up and creates these beautiful products with her team. HonestChocolate Cafe
We don’t need to say much - This is chocolate the way it is meant to be enjoyed.
Situated in Wale Street right next to the honest chocolate artisan chocolate shop, the cafe is a chocolate lover’s dream. They use only organic cacao beans which are ethically sourced from Ecuador, creating their hand-made, pure chocolate. The cafe offers amazing cacao inventions like hot-chocolate organic truffles, chocolate pizza (yes. that’s right) and ganache covered sourdough toast.
This is the kind of place we wouldn’t mind spending the rest of our a�ernoon. It is a place where you could enjoy the deep tastes of pure chocolate and just watch the city buzz along.

The LabiaTheatre
It’s amazing that just around the corner from 220Loop, with a 6 minute walk, you can enjoy some great cinema. The Labia Theatre on Orange Street is the oldest independent cinema in South Africa. They are well-known for screening popular classics as well as a vast variety of indie films.
The building itself has its own old-world charm and sets the stage for an evening of great stories. Originally used for performing arts, the theatre started screening films since the seventies. Most of the authentic fixtures and features of the old building are maintained and give the cinema that extra bit of romance.

Youngblood Africa is home to the art of emerging, up and coming talents. They support artists by hosting and running training and mentorship programmes geared towards developing their cra�. Finished works of art are then given the exposure they so rightfully deserve, with incredible exhibitions that feature some of the most unique artists in Cape Town.

ArcadeArcade is a great place for drinks a�er an incredible day in the city. Modelled a�er popular bars in New York and London, this urban hang out is increasingly popular amongst locals. It’s an international class bar. Even the kitchen closes at 11pm, which is unheard of outside the city centre.
The night life is usually buzzing with a fun and chilled vibe. If you’re meeting up with friends, their cafe-style food like chicken prego, pizzas, burgers, and salads are amazing, so definitely come hung�. Arcade has become one of the most popular hang-out spots for a�er-work drinks by many of the urban explorers working and living in the inner city.

I have been fortunate to be part of the CCID during a positive time. One of the more memorable experiences for me was the 2010 FIFA World Cup where I watched on match days as Capetonians flooded into the CBD. I clearly recall their surprise at finding the Central City safe, spotless, vibrant and inclusive. What was really special was to see them coming back again and again.
With a tremendous rise in the amount of people enjoying the various lifestyle offerings, coupled with a sharp rise in property investment, the CBD is becoming increasingly popular to live in. We’ve seen a rise from only around 750 residents a decade ago to an estimated 7 000 living here today, and we believe it will grow substantially more during the next two years.

The importance of shorter travel times between work and home, in particular, encourages inner-city living.
We would love to see the Cape Town CBD eventually become a true 24/7 live, work, play, and stay destination in line with the most vibrant cities in the world. Our vision is that it is accessible for all Capetonians.
We would love to see this potential unlocked to ensure that our CBD is inclusive and remains vibrant and alive through participation across multiple economic groups. This is vital for any city to survive and thrive.
As the CCID, we believe the success of Cape Town’s CBD is measured by people. While investment certainly gives the CBD life, people give it soul.

Rob Kane is the chairperson of the board of the Central City Improvement District (CCID), whose role is to advise the CCID on its strategic development and to ensure good governance. The CCID works tirelessly to ensure the CBD is safe, clean, caring, and open to urban residents.
We caught up with Rob to find out about what makes this exciting CBD tick.

Andre Krige | FounderAndre Krige is a passionate property developer who started his property career in 2004 a�er a brief stint in London where he worked in finance.
His passion for property and his entrepreneurial attitude brought him back to Cape Town, where he now sees a great deal of opportunity in the CBD. With his business background and a Stellenbosch University Honours in Business, he applied his skills to lifestyle and urban property development. He was immediately drawn to the evolution of the beautiful city landscape.

Warren Adler | FounderWarren’s business acumen stems from growing up in a family of successful entrepreneurs. Starting at an early age, he was inspired to become an entrepreneur himself and follow in their footsteps.
At eighteen he had started a transport company called Starving Student and ran a business that rented out accommodation to high-school graduates. By the age of twenty-two he had also co-founded a consultancy company called St. Bartz, which assisted hospitality businesses obtain grants from government and the public sector.
Being strongly influenced by his father, Adler’s decision to make a career in property development was inspired at a young age. He gained tremendous experience and knowledge in the indust� while working with small, manageable property projects. More recently, alongside UrbanOn, Warren has co-founded BRIC Property Developments and is keen to bring his vision and experience to shake up the property market.
Warren attributes his successes to the many people he’s learnt from and who have inspired him along the way. UrbanOn is another chapter in Warren’s entrepreneurial journey.
