What is Urban Tourism?
• Tourism that occurs in cities and towns
• Uses primary resources to attract visitors
• Has large numbers of secondary resources
• Offers unique attractions• Mainly cultural or historical

• Foot and Mouth in the UK – increase in Urban Tourism
• Sept 11 – fall in international tourism and tourist to NY
• Cheap flights and weekend deals – increase in short haul city breaks

Advantages
– Urban renewal– Increased spending in area– More Jobs– Improved amenities– Increased Economic status
Disadvantages
– Competition for land– Increased housing prices– Skills become obsolete– Damage to the area– Residents don’t benefit from tourism– Increased pollution– Increased congestion
