The name Urban Earth was chosen to contrast the ideas of city and nature. The mark is an urban map with the contrasting colored shape symbolizing the location of the hotel. This is placed into an earthy leaf outline. Serifa, a slab serif font, was chosen for its visual weight which helps to support the rustic theme of the brand.

StationeryThe stationery uses the logotype and mark with the graphic line element. This help unifies the pieces as a set. All are printed in the primary brown PMS 1545 on 24# Classic Laid Natural Writing Paper. A brick graphic with the mark is used on the reverse side of the postcard and business card to provide color and interest as well as supporting the brand identity.

Grid SystemThe grid is based on 8.5” x 11” format. It has five columns and five rows to make layouts more varied. The inside margin is a bit larger than the top, bottom and outside in order to balance the negative space in a multiple page spread.

Color PaletteThe primary colors are colors of the earth and sky. They work well with each other to create a comfortable environment. The secondary colors are also colors you would find in nature. Some are brighter to add some pop when accented in combination with the primaries. Some are muted to create a warm mood in combination with the primary colors.

The graphic elements consist of rules, a four square graphic and leaf silhouette. They were selected to reflect the modern, ecologi-cally friendly theme of the hotel while acknowledging the under-lying rustic nature of the renovated brick building. The texture library includes industrial swatches and fabric swatches. The library contains a selection of photographs suitable for hotel advertising.

Icon LibraryThe icons use primary colors to stand out when used in media and environmental design. Use of line and thickness allow for an easy read. Rounded shapes mimic some of the curvature in the mark. Some icons utilize a more simple version of the mark to be playful and truly unique.

Product PlacementUrban Earth wanted to do product placement on Modern Family since it fits the Urban Earth brand with its wide range of potential customers. In this episode, Jay, Gloria and Manny are in Omaha seeing the College World Series and staying at Urban Earth. They talk about what to do after one of the baseball games, carbon footprint and eating at the Green Pear Restaurant.

Jay, Gloria and Manny are walking outside of the TD Ameritrade Park.

Jay: So how awesome was that, huh?! I hope the Bears make it. It was great to go see an American pastime in person.

Manny: Yeah, I guess.

Jay: So what’s next on our itinerary?

Manny: Well, it’s time to go back to Urban Earth and wind down.

Jay: How about we eat some grub?

They all get in the car.

Manny (Looks through pamphlets): How about you eat light tonight? You had three hot dogs. I could give Chef Ortega a ring when we’re in the Deluxe Suite and he could offer some healthy choices.

Gloria: How about we all go swimming in the pool? That’s good exercise to lost the hot dog weight.

Jay: That’s not a bad idea. But I’m pretty beat. I want to sleep in that big bed. I never thought that recycled sheets would feel so nice.

Manny: Well, that’s what great about Urban Earth. They use recycled, renovated items to help keep the carbon footprint to a minimum. It’s good for the environment.

Gloria: Pero papi, what is a carbon footprint?

Manny: It’s about the total set of greenhouse gas emissions caused by people, events or products. Urban Earth is decreasing the amount of energy in emitting carbon by using sustainable and recycled materials.

Gloria: Oh. Why don’t they wear those Tom shoes? That would be helpful, right?

Manny: Um, sure but-

Jay: Hey! Why don’t we go swimming and instead of eating in the Deluxe Suite, we at the Green Pear Restaurant tonight?

Gloria: I love that idea!

Products & PackagingUrban Earth products include travel size green tea shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and mint mouthwash. Olive oil lip balm is in cardboard packaging and glacier water is in glass bottles for recycling potential. Also included in products is a caramel soy candle for a sensory keepsake of the customer’s stay. Gift bags and boxes are made of recyclable paper with a blown up version of the mark while the tissue paper utilizes a mark in a pattern to contrast size.

Lobby / Registration

The light-filled front Lobby at Urban Earth welcomes and surrounds guests with warm color palette featuring creams and rich woods. The Registration Desk is custom made with solid oak from the original building. The porcelain tile entryway made with post-consumer recycled

glass is an eco-friendly product that is cost effective, durable and virtually maintenance-free. A wrought iron chandelier hanging in the entryway is a design feature which contributes to the updated rustic decor.

Atrium

After passing through the lobby, visitors enter the Atrium and are treated to a light-filled view of the floors above. Porcelain tile in a brick texture covers the floors, and leather, wood and wrought iron furnishings

fill the space. Rugs are hand-woven wool which by nature is known to be dirt and soil-resistant, fire-retardant and non-allergenic. The atrium also feature small trees, flowering plants and a small indoor pond with koi.

Each bedroom reflects the updated rustic theme of Urban Earth.. Rich wood furniture and luxuriously soft 100% certified organic cotton provide luxurious comfort. Wall paint used throughout the hotel is zero VOC.
