Dear readers,

A very demanding and challenging year is coming to an end. The year 2020 was very strongly marked by the corona pandemic. Even the still ongoing trade war between the USA and China and the election in the USA did not make the year more easily. Despite this, URACA was able to manage the difficult and exceptional time because of your confidence in our products. For this we would like to express our greatest thanks to all of you, our loyal customers.

We are pleased that we were able to supply many pumps for the non-woven application within this year, to provide our support for the production of face masks and protective clothing in the pandemic period.

Based on the already existing orders for 2021, we are cautiously optimistic about the future. However, the year 2021 will probably demand a lot from all of us, as the corona pandemic will still be present. Even the new and largest free trade agreement RCEP in Asia will not make things more easily for the export nation Germany. But we will also manage this challenges.

Now we would like to thank you all, our valued customers and partners worldwide, for the good cooperation and your trust in URACA. We wish you, your families and your employees a Merry Christmas, peaceful days and all the best for the coming year and stay healthy.

High Temperature pumps in Refinery Processes p. 2

Throughout the year URACA supported the fight against the Corona virus with supplies for many new orders from all over the world for high pressure pumps units used in the non-woven sector.

The pumps feed demineralized recycled wa-ter to nozzles which generate high pressure water jets to entangle fibers used in making high quality fabric materials. The spunlace or hydro entanglement technology is used primarily to manufacture base materials for items like face masks and other hygien-ic products. We are especially proud to have supported this global effort with our pumps which have been a critical part of the supply chain process providing face masks, anti-vi-ral cleaning wipes as well as many other fiber materials used to combat the pandemic.

The notable advantage of using URACA high pressure pumps for the manufacturing of fibers is the pumps extreme reliability and durability, both a result of dedication to su-perior quality built into each pumping sys-

tem. These advantages are extremely impor-tant to a process requiring around the clock, 7 days per week, 52 weeks a year operation at full pressure and load. Additionally, the high efficiency of the pumps, at over 90%, ensures the lowest possible energy use re-sulting in greater operational savings.

URACA has been active supporting the tech-nological transition from needle punched to spunlace fibers using water jets. From the start, URACA continues to work with pio-neering technology leaders to ensure the process sets the standard for quality and re-liability. The many decades of combined ex-perience are incorporated in all the latest pump designs to ensure the most advanced systems available for this quality driven mar-ket.

High Temperature pumps in Refinery Processes

In petrochemical production, specifically in the cracking processes, the central build-ing blocks of a refinery, the basic products for the pro-duction of fuels, colors and plastics, pharmaceuticals, detergents, and many other products are produced.

Higher precision in the production of drop forgingsWhen steel is heated for hot rolling or forming processes, it reacts with the air and forms a layer of iron oxide on its surface.

Descaling is the process of remov-ing this layer; to do this, high-pres-sure water is sprayed on the oxidized surface of the work piece. The scale layer is broken up and removed by the impact of the high-pressure wa-ter stream, as well as the explosive vaporization of the water when it touches the red-hot steel. The addi-tion of this effect to the already pow-erful high-pressure water jet results in a clean work piece, free of oxides and ready for further processing. Descaling with high-pressure wa-ter not only ensures a high-quality finished product free of oxide inclu-sions, it also benefits the later stag-es of the production process. Flow in the forming tools is improved, as well as the surface quality of the work piece, reducing wear on tools and forging dies. The Hammerwerk Fridingen (HF) in-tegrated a URACA descaling unit, for cleaning scale off small steel billets, into their press line.

We asked Andreas Lubetzke about their experience:

Could you tell us what you produce, and how you use descaling?

HF: We produce a wide range of drop-forged and extruded components, ranging in weight from 0.3 to 80 kg, in diameters from 50 to 425 mm and in lengths up to 800 mm. With both automated and manual production capabilities, we are well equipped to handle both large and small produc-tion runs, for example for the aero-space industry. We work with both alloy and non-alloy steels, as well as

precipitation hardening and stainless steels in all forgeable grades. High-pressure descaling improves the sur-face quality of our products.

What are the required operating pa-rameters for descaling, and how were they determined?

HF: This unit is descaling the front faces of steel billets, with the pump feeding two spray bars in alternat-ing operation. The pressure is 330 bar, and the flow is varied between 20 – 60 L/min, depending on demand. The URACA Technical Center provided us with a test unit, which we used to test different parameters to find the best surface quality.

How does the descaling unit work in your production process?

HF: Red-hot steel billets are picked up by a robot and held in the desca-ling station, before immediately be-ing loaded into the press. That means control of the descaling unit is fully integrated into the control system of the whole press line. The descaling cycle takes only milliseconds, and is timed precisely to the whole produc-tion line, thanks to this integration.

How does the descaling unit benefit your production?

HF: The high surface quality, above all, makes our forgings cleaner, more precise, and ready for any addition-al processing, with fewer discarded pieces. We also expect noticeably longer lifecycles for our forging dies and presses. The descaling unit im-

proves the performance of the whole production process.

What made you choose URACA as a supplier for your descaling unit?

HF: We saw a similar unit in opera-tion at another metalworking com-pany, in this case a casting manu-facturer, and wanted to bring that capability to our own production process. In the past, we‘ve supplied forged parts for URACA, and we were able to build on this relationship with our descaling project.

How was your experience working with URACA on this project?

HF: We expect that the descaling unit installed and integrated into our production line will prove to be a good investment; so far its perfor-mance has met and exceeded our ex-pectations. We credit URACA’s expert advice for making this project a suc-cess, and we look forward to cooper-ate with URACA to upgrade our other forging lines with similar units.

Mr. Lubetzke, thank you for your time and your positive feedback. We will do everything in our power to ful-fill the trust you have placed in us.

The pumps used in these applications demand the highest expectations in design and features. They not only need to operate under high pressures, they also need to operate under high temperatures while providing maxi-mum reliability and durability. For decades URACA pumps have prov-en themselves in the processes of re-fineries around the world. New refin-eries also rely on URACA high pressure pumps, especially for applications or processes requiring pumping hot oil and wash water. These highly sensitive processes require pumps capable of providing the exact pressure and flow demanded of them whether new or many years old. The demand for relia-bility stays the same for the life of the equipment. Is a high pressure pump the ideal choice for this application? The high quality of URACA pumps are, especially after many years of use, the right choice based on reliability, dura-bility, ease of maintenance and design. URACA pumps offer long run times, low energy consumption due to high efficiency, long maintenance intervals, and leading designs based on many years of experience making URACA pumps the ideal choice for custom-ers calculating the life cycle costs of a pump.

A pump capable of operating reliably at high and ul-tra-high pressures is only one side of a coin; safely controlling and distributing it the other side. With powerful pumps being used to supply multiple con-sumers, for instance a cleaning system with mul-tiple tank cleaning heads, valves capable of safely and reliably controlling flow under high pressure is an absolute requirement. Although plant safety is a top priority, the most important of all is the safety of plant personnel. The new valve models PSV25/1200 and PSV 15/1600 offer new possibilities for high pressure, without compromising on safety.

The Latest in High-Pressure Valves

Lightweight, sturdy, reliable – the new P3-19Developed as the successor to the KD708 sewer cleaning pump, the new URACA high-pressure pump model P3-19 features much more than just a new look:

Smaller, lighter, better and at the same time technically up to date in the usual high quality - this is how the P3-19 presents itself to its fu-ture users. With its higher power density, the pump not only replaces the previous KD708, it al-so opens up a wider field of application with its good 10 % more power. As the European market leader in sewer clean-ing pumps, URACA focuses on high power densi-ty and the longest possible running times with a thoroughly robust operation of the pumps. It’s because of these features, as well as a repu-tation for reliability, that URACA pumps are the

standard in sewer cleaning. The P3-19 includes a crankcase sealing as standard to ensure even higher reliability compared to the predecessor. Thanks to nearly identical mounting points to those of the KD708, lighter weight, and a more compact design overall, switching to a P3-19 is easy for customers which are looking for an up-grade.Customers in sewer cleaning know they can de-pend on URACA’s quality and in-house manu-facturing, the product of decades of experience designing and building high-pressure plunger pumps. This experience is reflected in the new

P3-19, which features a compact design and an optimized position of the input shaft, allowing for easy installation on any sewer cleaning truck. At a weight of only 175 kg including the integrat-ed gear drive, the P3-19 also helps users to opti-mize the maximum load of their trucks.
