1986 – Mr Berenado Vunibobo

Service and leadership in the Fijian Public and Diplomatic Services and in the United Nations.

1987 – Mr William Robertson

Mr William George Robertson, QDA (1934), QDH (1935), B.Agr.Sc., F.A.I.A.S., DFC

Service and leadership in the RAAF and rural activities.

1988 – Professor Henry Nix

Professor Henry Allan Nix, QDA (1st Class Hons.) (1956), B.Agr.Sc., F.A.I.A.S.

Service as a world-renowned research scientist and consultant in the fi elds of agriculture, horticulture, forestry and conservation of fl ora and fauna.

In recognition of services as a distinguished Research Entomologist with the Queensland Department of Primary Industries, particularly research involving the eradication of the fruit fl y.

1997 – Mr John Grigg

In recognition of his outstanding contribution to the pineapple industry and service to the QAC Council and to the UQ Gatton College Advisory Council.

1998 – Mr John Sinclair

In recognition of environmental work, particularly leadership of the conservation movement in the campaign to stop sandmining and logging on Fraser Island and the World Heritage Listing of the island.

1999 – Mr James Miller

In recognition of leadership in research and technological developments in Queensland’s dairy industry.

2000 – The Hon. Keith De Lacy

In recognition of distinguished service to Queensland and its primary industries in various parliamentary, public and private roles.

2002 – Mr Boonyarak Suebsiri

Mr Boonyarak Suebsiri, QDAH (1956), B.Agr Sc., M.Agr.Sc. (Mississippi State University), Public Admin-istration in Agricultural Development (Uni of Wisconsin)

In recognition of his outstanding achievements in his vocation and his contributions to soil conservation and land development in the Thai Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperation.

2003 – Mr Victor Meurant

Mr Victor Noel Meurant, QDH (1954)

In recognition of a distinguished career of nearly fi fty years with the Queensland Department of Primary Industries and his achievements in agricultural and horticultural research.

2004 – Ms Bettina Dalton

Ms Bettina Jane Dalton, Assoc. Dip. Rural Techniques (1982)

In recognition of her outstanding contribution to natural sciences in the area of natural history documentary production.

Bettina Jane (Tina) Dalton was the fi rst female recipient of the UQ Gatton Gold Medal.

2005 – Professor Laurence von Itzstein

Professor Laurence Mark Hilton von Itzstein, QCAH (1976), B.Sc., Ph.D., F.R.A.C.I., F.A.A.S., Member of the American Chemical Society, Member of New York Academy of Sciences

In recognition of his research work in developing the world’s fi rst anti-fl u drug, and for outstanding achievements in his vocation and his contributions to industry.

2006 – Professor Keith Entwistle

Professor Keith William Entwistle, QDAH (1957) (2nd Class Hons.), B.V.Sc., Ph.D.

In recognition of his signifi cant contributions to the northern Australian cattle industry.

2007 – Dr Allan Baker

2007 – Dr Allan Andrew Baker, QDAH (1956), B.V.Sc. (Hons.), Ph.D., F.A.C.V.Sc.

In recognition of his signifi cant contributions to the Australian and worldwide development of the veterinary profession.

2008 – Dr Kerry Dowsett

2008 – Dr Kerry Francis Dowsett, QDAH (1963), B.V.Sc., Ph.D.

A veterinarian and mentor recognised for his outstanding contribution to the development of the veterinary profession and his contributions to the beef cattle industry.

In 1984 the Queensland Agricultural College Council inaugurated a Gold Medal to be awarded each Graduation Day to a past student who, in the opinion of the Council and the Past Students Association, had contributed most to a fi eld relevant to the College. The Past Students Association Magazine for that year reported – “This will be the College’s most esteemed award.” The Medal was known as the Council Gold Medal.

The Medal is now known as the UQ Gatton Gold Medal and is primarily to recognise a graduate who has achieved outstanding success or honour in, or has made and continues to make, an outstanding contribution to their vocation in an area of relevance to the interests of UQ Gatton. In addition, the award presents an opportunity to highlight in public the role and achievements of UQ Gatton.

1992 – Mr Basil Brett

Mr. Basil Brabazon Brett, QDA (1st Class Hons.) (1948), B.Agr.Sc. (Hons)

With courage, determination, foresight and faith overcame the setbacks of impaired health, particularly during his youth, to become a distinguished and outstanding leader of the Agricultural and Veterinary Chemical Industries.

2001 – Mr Harry Debney

Mr Harry George Debney, QDA (1969) (2nd Class Hons.), Dip.App.Sc. (1973)

In recognition of work associated with the Queensland horticultural industry and in the paper recycling and packaging industries.
