UQ Abroad
Student Exchange Program
What is an exchange program?
• Study overseas for 1 or 2
semesters at a partner
institution
• Pay no tuition fees to host
university
• Transfer credit to your UQ
degree upon completion of
your exchange
• Does not extend your degree
• Does not affect your GPA
Eligibility criteria
• Successful completion of an equivalent full-
time year at UQ (minimum 16 units) (PG=8
units) in current program
• Currently enrolled at UQ
• A sound academic record in current
program (Grade Point Average = 4.5 or
above)
• School/faculty approval for courses to be
studied on exchange
Where can I study?
• UQ has 175 exchange
partners in 38 countries
• Many universities teach
courses in English
• Some restrictions apply

• Can go on exchange but cannot go on
exchange to their country of citizenship
• Transfer students - Must have completed
16 units at UQ in semester of application
• May need to request permission from
scholarship body
• AusAid students cannot participate in UQ

•St Margaret’s OGA Overseas study scholarship
•Youth Allowance/Aus Study (Approx. $150/week)
•OS-HELP loan scheme (up to $5,824 per semester (for 2012))
•Host university/government scholarships

OS-HELP Loan
• Students may receive up to $5,824 per six-month study period (in 2012) for one or two overseas study periods
•A student must be an Australian citizen or the holder of a permanent humanitarian visa
•A Commonwealth-supported student enrolled in an undergraduate course of study
•Students cannot receive an OS-HELP loan for the first year (equivalent full-time) or last semester of their course of study
•Cannot receive OS-HELP loan for Diploma studies
•The loan is subject to the same repayment arrangements as HECS
•Apply through UQ Abroad office

*Check deadlines for Canadian universities as some have only one deadline per year
