The Beginning
• Company Started in 1907 when John Casey Borrows $100 in Seattle, Washington.
• 1913 the Modal T becomes the first delivery car, Before that walking and bikes were the way of transportation
• Due to the merger with Evert McCabe the name changes from America Messenger Company to Merchants Parcel Delivery in 1913.
Expansion
• 1919 The company acquires the name United Parcel Service.
• The expansion begins with Oakland, CA, then to Los Angeles.
• 1924 UPS uses the fist conveyor system for package handling.
• In 1930 UPS heads to the East coast in the cities of New York and Newark, NJ.
• In 1953 UPS uses air service to reach customers in two days.
• 1975 UPS Becomes the first to provide services in 48 states.
Going Global
• In 1981 the first aircraft was purchased.
• In 1985 next day service was implemented and UPS goes international.
• Packages were delivered to 175 different countries by 1989.
Early 90’s
• In 1992 11.5 million packages were delivered per day to 200 different countries.
• Electronic tracking was introduced for ground service.
• 1994 UPS hits the web with the ability to track your packages online.
New York Stock Exchange
• Nov. 10, 1999 the company goes public.• 10% of stock was sold.
