Program OverviewTouchMath provides this Upper Grades Program Overview and Scope and Sequence to present the story of the TouchMath approach to math standards for students with learning disabilities. The standards apply broadly to individual states, Common Core State Standards, and various versions of standards from the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. The TouchMath Upper Grades Program, Sixth Edition, provides support for individual learning by presenting information in multiple ways and by ensuring students have the appropriate amount of meaningful repetition to master the skills. Both the content and the activities are scaffolded with small steps to ensure students understand and apply relationships to master skills. The focus is simple: Learn and apply strategies to solve problems. The use of TouchPoints as kinesthetic and/or visual cues, properties of operations, and relationships among number representations are each presented to fi nd the match for each student. At the core of the Program is the philosophy of TouchMath: Use what comes naturally to learners to teach the skills.

How To Use This BookletThree signifi cant components are included in this booklet: 1) A comprehensive scope and sequence 2) One-page overviews of each of the ten units that comprise the Program 3) A basic scope and sequence

Comprehensive Scope and SequenceThe tool is designed to show the relationships of the topics, standards, skills, and activities included in the Program. The topics appear at the top of each page. The standards or broad outcomes are emphasized in purple. The skills or objectives are highlighted in lavender. The activities that defi ne the approach are listed in shades of blue. The delineation of the activities outlines the differences between the TouchMath Program and other published programs.

On the right side of each page is a chart that indicates the broad, basic grade levels of the content. On the left side of the page in the fi rst column is an orange speech bubble with the unit number of the Program. Everything below a speech bubble applies until a different speech bubble is included. When using this tool, it is best to read down the page to see the relationships of the skills and activities.
