    JOB TITLE : Computer Network Technician LEVEL : Three

    2 JOB DESCRIPTION Computer Network Technician supports and maintains a basic network Systems on Windows and Linux Networking.

    3 LIST OF TASKS

    1. Identifying and connecting the different Components of Computer Systems including Motherboard, Processor, Storage Devices, Memory, Display Card, Sound Card , NIC and Modem.

    2. Laying the LAN and preparing Cables as per requirement. 3. Identifying and connecting the basic Networking Components like Hub, NIC, Switch, Router, Modem, Wireless Components, Cables

    and Connectors. 4. Installing the Client-Server based Operating System and Protocols like NetBios, IPX/SPX and TCP/IP. 5. Installing the Client Operating System and connecting to the Server. 6. Creating User and Group Accounts and assigning Rights and Permissions. 7. Sharing the Resources and assigning basic Permissions. 8. Installing and configuring Print Server and Clients. 9. Installing and configuring Email and Internet Client. 10. Troubleshooting and repairing Network and its Devices. 11. Installing Network Utility Software.

    Note: Every year, the standard needs to be revised in line with the changes in Computer technology.

    4 QUALIFYING NOTES (entry requirements)

    1. Educational requirements: Should be able to read and write English and Nepali language. 2. Others: Should have 3 years of work experience and have completed 48 hrs of training on Networking. OR As per National Skill Testing Board (NSTB) rules with literate on English

    4.1 Prepares a Systems with minimum Hardware requirements for installation of Server. 4.2 Collects required Software. 4.3 Creates necessary Disk partition and formats. 4.4 Starts installation. 4.5 Selects the Disk partition, Drive and Folder name to install the Operating System. 4.6 Installs the Driver files for necessary hardware Devices. 4.7 Accepts the License Agreement. 4.8 Enters the Computer Name. 4.9 Selects the number of Users of license required. 4.10 Adds and configure the necessary Protocol like NetBios, IPX/SPX and TCP/IP. 4.11 If the DHCP Sever already exists in the Network, it selects the option to obtain the IP address from DHCP Server. 4.12 If there is no DHCP Server, it plans for IP addressing scheme and accordingly enter the IP address and Subnet mask. 4.13 Sets the Password for Server Administrator 4.14 Selects the different Components of Operating System as required 4.15 Makes settings for Time zone and Display Adaptor. 4.16 Completes the installation Process.

    5.1 Identifies the Client Operating System that has to be installed. 5.2 Checks whether the NIC card is plugged in the Clients Computer or not. 5.3 Identifies the NIC, which is going to be installed in the Systems. 5.4 If NIC is not plugged, opens the Casing and plugs the NIC in the appropriate Slot of the Motherboard. 5.5 Closes the Casing tightly and starts the Systems. 5.6 Select the Control Panel and runs the program for Hardware Devices settings. 5.7 Gives the appropriate path for Driver files and proceeds 5.8 Confirms the completion of installation process. 5.9 Installs the Protocol so as to match the Protocol installed in the Server 5.10 Assigns the correct IP address if the server is running TCP/IP protocol. 5.11 Plans whether to Workgroup Model or Domain Model. 5.12 For the Workgroup Model gives the Workgroup Name in Network Settings. 5.13 For the Domain Model, enters the Domain name in which you want to register your Client. 5.14 Restarts the Systems and log on to the Server using the Administrator User Account. 5.15 Confirms connection between Server and Client if the log on process is completed successfully. 5.16 For TCP/IP Networks, uses the PING Command to check the Connectivity.
