Is technology increasing in your school every day?

How would you like to increase test scores through the use of technology?

Do you think students could increase their personal skill set if they were exposed to the most modern technology available?

What if teachers were also given new tools which would simplify integration of technology in the classroom?

Would ”going green” to conserve power to turn off machines at 8PM everyday and recycling discarded equipment save

money?

Would increasded security through the network from work and home be beneficial?

A Few Questions For You

A classroom that incorporates

technology is full of students and

teachers that are engaged in learning.

Ensure students are increasing personal

skill set by working on modern

technology.

Upgrading to Windows 7 will first of all

make a teacher’s life easier when

utilizing technology in their classroom.

Windows 7 allows your PC to load much,

much faster. Finding a picture or

documents is found much more quickly

and shortcuts are easier to find.

Increase productivity within the school’s administrative staff

Do you fear technology projects?

Wakes from sleep mode fast. Performs better for educators and IT specialists. Jump lists that recall recent documents. Remembers the network printer you used last so that you don’t have to search for it, and if you’re using a wireless laptop it will remember the one you use at home as well. Teachers can find things so much faster.

Can………..Windows 7

Increase student test scores through increased use of technology in the classroom

Help Improve Test Scores

Inner city and Charter schools need a fast and reliable operating system

Students retain what they learn when technology assists them without instability

Windows 7 will assist in allowing our teachers to integrate new teaching techniques into their classrooms which will raise student performance throughout the school. Research has shown these facts.

Increase student test scores through increased use of technology in the classroom.

Additional Organizational Goals

Lincoln Charter School

Overall savings through ‘going green’ – using power management to turn machines off after 8pm and recycling discarded equipment

GoalGoal

Increased security through encrypted wired and wireless – both in school and from home

Goal

Give teachers new tools which will simplify integration of technology in the classroom

Windows 7 doesn’t cause as many common technology issues in the

classroom as other operating systems

Teachers can feel confident and not fear something going wrong with the

operating system

What students and teachers can do…………..

Students and teachers can customize their icons on the taskbar in order to find things that you use the most easily.

The search feature finds documents, and photos faster.

Use drag and drop to add things to the taskbar. Get thumbnail views of WebPages which can save time

during classroom searches.

• Lessons begin faster through the whiteboard which keeps students from getting off task.

• Icons are larger and easier to find for the touch feature. You can easily see a visual preview of all the open documents.

• If multiple windows are up and want only one displayed, you just need to click on the one you want, shake it and then all others are minimized quickly.

• More ways to engage students using sound, video and touch.

• New feature called skydive allows you to share files and photos with other teachers and students online.

The old way of teaching is not going to work with today’s students any longer. Why?

• Online media such as teleconferencing tools, Skype and Cisco is also a way to talk to your students and other schools and students all over the world, which prepares them to become savvy communicators.

• These teach all students technology and internet tools for life.

• Students can use Web 2.0 tools to create forms in Google Docs, Office Live, which can allow them to network their coursework with their teacher or classmates.

• Using more internet tools help motivate students and they are visually stimulating. Interactive whiteboards keeps students engaged and make you more excited to teach.

• Technology helps change students learning habits.

• You can create your own podcasts and vodcasts, which can benefit absent students and for the future students can create their own, this also teaches them how to use software and learn how to edit audio and video, which could turn into a big career.

• Blogs and wikis can be used for communication, answering important questions and showcasing student work and adds depth to your teaching.

• Social networking and it allows you to communicate with your students and it can create closed groups.

• Teenagers love music so you can use music from the web.

• “Children are more open to learning material that is presented using current technology. Most

schools have dedicated computer labs that are shared between all the grades. When computers

are used in the classroom children become more interested in learning and aware of the

importance of what is being taught. Look at using current technology in the classroom to engage

the pupils and to encourage participation.”

• A Teacher from Catherine Cook school in Chicago says:

“I am really impressed with the performance — the decreased memory and processing usage. I’m

able to get more out of the PCs we already own,” said Bill Mierisch, director of Technology,

Catherine Cook School. “Because Windows 7 is a smaller footprint, I won’t have to invest in extra

RAM, and I will be able to deliver more services to students and teachers such as multimedia

programs, audio and graphics manipulation because the operating system isn’t using all the

juice.” http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2009/jun09/06-28necc2009pr.mspx

Students need to use the technology they use everyday in the proper way to learn new concepts in the classroom!

Isn’t it time we empowered our teachers and students and give them

the kind of OS System needed to help our students learn with a new and innovative way of completing

their technology projects ?

We believe that upgrading to Windows 7 can do a better job.

Page 20: Upgrading to Windows 7 Project LTMS 530 Lincoln Charter School

WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?

That’s our questions to you?

Are we ready to make our teachers more apt to teaching our students with a more reliable system?

Aren’t our students worth the investment?

Are we ready to increase what students retain by 50%?

Don’t our students deserve the chance to become masters at research and development, and not continue to slip in math and science ?

Shouldn’t our students be prepared to compete with their peers all around the world?

Are we ready to save the District Money?

I’m ready – Are you?

E-Rate will provide funding for 90% of the overall cost of our infrastructure upgrades.

Servers must be tested and installed in network environment. All rolls transferred to servers must be verified for connectivity and proper operation.

Discarded computers will have their hard drives wiped to ensure compliance with federal, state and local identity/privacy laws.

Replacing infrastructure servers with new equipment running Windows Server 2008 R2, replacing firewall, upgrading workstations in school to Windows 7 Professional and providing training to staff and faculty on budget by Sept. 1, 2011.

Infrastructure and workstation upgrades will be implemented by LCS’s Technology Services department.

Training will be conducted by LCS’s head computer technician who will hold Windows 7 certification by June 2011.

Project must be completed by the 4th week of August – when school begins.
