Overall ObjectivesUpon completion of this conference, participants should be better able to: 1. Understand the current evaluation and management of patients with alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency.2. Select appropriate type 2 inflammation-targeted therapies for patients with severe asthma on the basis of safety and efficacy data and asthma phenotype.3. Understand molecular basis of new therapies for lung cancer and appropriate evaluation of lung cancer patients. 4. Understand latest controversies in management of ARDS and refractory hypoxemia.5. Understand the appropriate application of non-invasive ventilation to patients with respiratory failure.6. Evaluate and treat patients with advanced lung diseases and know when to refer these patients for transplantation.7. Evaluate and manage patients with pleural abnormalities.8. Understand the appropriate application of interventional bronchoscopy techniques to patients with airway lesions.

Featured Presenter & HonoreeConference OverviewThe second year of the South Carolina Thoracic Society’s conference will cover a broad range of topics in pulmonary and critical care including alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, lung cancer, severe asthma, interstitial lung disease, non-invasive ventilation, and other advances in critical care. It will include up to 8 hrs of CME lectures which have been designed specifically for the pulmonary and critical care specialist. New features this year include fellows poster presentations, and case presentations with “Ask the Expert” . Many opportunities will be provided to the participants for questions and comments, as well as, networking with colleagues across the region.

The conference will be hosted at the Renaissance Charleston Historic District hotel and will combine learning with the scenic and historic backdrop of downtown Charleston.
