PAC Information
U PDA TE R
Our next PAC meeting will be Wednesday, November 9th, 6:30 PM. Please come
out and join our group and get to know what is happening in our school and what
initiatives we are undertaking!
Our next big event will be our Christmas Craft Fair, happening on November 24th , 6-8:00 pm. We will be
looking for people to help with: Set up, bake sale (and
baking!), Santa Photos, Silent Auction table, clean up and
more. We appreciate everyone’s help with all of the
activities of the evening!
Even though Ms. Smillie extended the deadline to have these completed (you’ve had 5 weeks….) 21% of our stu-dents still don’t have one on file.
They give permission (or not) to have
♦ your child's photo published in the newsletter, on the website and on the foyer TV as well as possibly the School District website or publications
♦ for the newspaper to publish photo/name/comment should they attend a school event
♦ allow your child to have access to the District's ICT (computers, laptops and iPads, Smartboards) this
includes Genius Hour, Writers Workshop and research just to name a few things that they will not have access to com-
puters to participate in
Sending and tracking these forms by paper is quite onerous, but those still without FOI’s, please look for your child to be bringing a paper copy home.
Until we have a completed copy on file, the school must assume your answer is NO. Please note that most classes use the iPads, Laptops and Smartboards to enhance student learning and your child will not have access to this
technology.
Freedom of Information - SUPER IMPORTANT!
Parking Lot
Parents, please be aware that the painted area at the South end (Viking Ridge) and in the front of the school
are NO Parking ZonesNO Parking ZonesNO Parking ZonesNO Parking Zones!
It is quite dangerous to park in the South no-parking zone and then try to back out as all of the morn-
ing/afternoon traffic is arriving. Plus the sidewalk is narrow for those walking to school.
The front zone is actually a fire lane and there should beshould beshould beshould be no stopping no stopping no stopping no stopping but we do allow parents to drop students off here. Having said that, drop off means just that, pull up, kids exit car and you drive away. If you need to
unbuckle and exit your vehicle to “drop” kids off, then you must find a parking spot to do so.

Notes from the Studio
What have we been doing???
The primary students have been working on Kindness—included on the first circle under My Self on
the four blankets. We have explored kindness through movement, reading stories then acting out dif-
ferent scenarios to show kindness as well as brainstorming ways to show kindness in the studio, class-
room and on the playground. We have explored different music (African, Swing, Mexican, Irish, etc)
using scarfs, our bodies and different movement techniques. We are currently
exploring Vivaldi—the Four Seasons, focusing on Autumns colours and activities in
autumn through drama and movement while listening to this beautiful music!
The Intermediate students have been working on the sense of belonging, included in
under My Self on the four blankets. We have
used drama games to work on feeling more
comfortable and confident with each other.
The focus for drama has been tableaus and
moving tableaus. We have used this technique
with many different topics chosen by the stu-
dents and myself. Students have formed
groups and will be starting to present their
own warm-up activities. They have signed up
for the date they are presenting their chosen
activity to the class.
Want to know how your child’s day at
school was? Instead of asking “How
was school today?”, try one of these:
♦ Tell me about a moment today
when you felt excited about what you were
learning.
♦ Tell me about a conversation you had with a
classmate or friend that you enjoyed?
♦ What was challenging about your day?
♦ What do you appreciate about your day?
♦ Is there anything that you’d like to talk about
that I might be able to help you figure out?
These are just a few suggestions to get the conversa-
tion started

stead, through sharing ideas, tips and experiences, parents are helped to recognize their strengths, better understand their child and find
positive ways to raise healthy, happy children. This is a free program and space is limited. To register, phone Nicole Harper 604-815-
