EducationalObjectives
Primary care providers, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and specialists in Internal Medicine and Family Practice seeking updates in practical knowledge relating to patient care.
The Update in Internal Medicine is a program emphasizing topics requested by our re-ferring physicians, controversies arising from journal clubs, and posed by our train-ees. The program highlights diagnostic and therapeutic solutions based on the most recent clinical science. The goal of the program is to provide state-of-the-art practical advice on issues identified as frequent items for consultation and second opinions, as well as new advances in applying molecular techniques in translational medicine.
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to link the educational objectives to Core Competencies (Medical Knowledge) and:• Identify patients benefiting from therapy with newer drugs in IPF• Select patients who may benefit from biologic modifiers for asthma• Counsel patients on the risk of complications from zika virus infection• Stratify therapy for c.difficile infection based on disease severity• Utilize statins and PCSK-9 inhibitors to reduce cardiovascular events
The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center is accredited by the Accredita-tion Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center designates this live activity for a maximum of 22 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. All persons in the position to control the content of an education activity are required to disclose all relevant financial relationships in any amount occurring within the past 12 months with any entity producing, marketing, re-selling, or distributing health care goods or services consumed by, or used on patients. A primary mechanism to resolve identified conflicts of interest is a content review that is prior to the activity.
This course is meant to educate physicians with what is currently in use and what may be available in the future. There may be “off-label” use discussed in the activity. Speakers have been requested to inform the audience when off-label use is discussed.
Go online to https://cme.utsouthwestern.edu/rp1704a You must login to your profile in order to register. The Mr. & Mrs. I.G. Bromberg Visiting Professorship was established in 1959 by Mrs. Essie Bromberg Joseph and her sister, Miss Mina Bromberg, in honor of their parents and at the suggestion of the late Alfred W. Harris, M.D. This visiting professorship was the first such arrangement made in this part of the country. It was unique in that the visiting scholar had as his principal assignment tutorial sessions with medical students and patients in the broad field of Internal Medicine.
PURPOSETo bring persons of the highest distinction in medicine to the School for lectures, consulta-tions, conferences or other contacts with students, faculty or the public.
