use of electronic submission of assignments use of detection strategies
using work in progress for discussion with students; use working papers in assignment hand-in; variety methods such as presentations in assessment; vivas as mandatory elements for large pieces of work; technical support to review assignments increase understanding of importance and integration of the task set

Case Study Dissertation & Research Methods School practice Modules work to embed awareness
Formative exercise undertaken in Research methods: Proposal reviewing OR with supervisors or the module tutors, who provide advice on remedial action. *
Information Specialist talk/exercises ‘Plagiarism and how to avoid it’.
Students required to submit their whole projects to the PDS prior to submission. Offered two ‘revision’ submissions before final. *

AMBER survey part 1 outcomes : Northumbria mature Regulatory framework, some additions made:
Student own re-use of materials 3.2.v This is the unacknowledged re-submission of
work the student had previously submitted for assessment, whether for an award at this University or elsewhere.
4.1.7 An allegation of academic misconduct may be made at any time after the work has been marked and returned to the student. See also section 4.4.9
