SERIES AT A GLANCE:The Squirrels and SeaWolves will play the middle game of a three-game series tonight at 6:05PM. Richmond took the opener 2-0 and pulled to within two games of the first place SeaWolves. Richmond has won six of the last seven contests and finished the month of May with a 17-11 record. Yesterday: RICHMOND,VA – The Richmond Flying Squirrels (29-24) blanked the Erie SeaWolves (31-22), 2-0, in front of a capac- ity crowd of 9,560 at The Diamond on Friday night to give legendary skipper Dave Machemer his 1,600th win as a manager. The milestone comes as Mac’s Squirrels have claimed six of their last seven ballgames and sit just two games behind the SeaWolves for the Western Division lead. LHP Carlos Teller (1-0) worked into the sixth inning before calling it a night. He held off the SeaWolves over 5 1/3 innings despite walking six and conceding three hits. He struck out two on the evening before handing it off to right- hander Omar Javier. Javier cleaned up the inning, and Teller earned the win, his first decision in the Eastern League TODAY’S PITCHERS: RHP Taylor Rogers (3-2, 6.04) vs. RHP Victor Larez (5-1, 4.74) RHP Taylor Rogers will make his fifth start tonight and his 10th appearances overall. Rogers will be pitching on four days rest and last time out went: 2.2IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 1K on 36 pitches - 27 for strikes - to earn the win in relief in Altoona on Monday. Rogerssteps back into the rotation with the promotion yesterday of RHP Fabio Castillo to Fresno. Rogers last start was on 5/11 in Altoona and he went: 3.1IP, 7H, 5R, 2BB, 2K on 68 pitches - 38 for strikes in a 5-3 loss. Rogers tossed a season-high 89 pitches in his second outing of the season on 4/16 and has gone five innings just once. RHP Victor Larez will make his 11th start of the season and his first vs. Richmond. Larez will be working on four days rest and last time out went: 5IP, 13H, 8R, 2HR, 0BB, 4K on 88 pitches - 61 for strikes in a 9-8 SeaWolves win over Akron.The 13 hits and 8 earned runs allowed vs. Akron were both career-highs for Larez. Larez began the season in the Erie rotation, however, he pitched entirely out of the bullpen last season for Lakeland. Larez signed with the Tigers in 2009 as a NDFA at the age of 19 out of Ven- ezuela. He has been used in relief and as a starter throughout his career and has never been rated as a top Tigers prospect Baseball America. Chris Gloor (8IP) Craig Westcott (6IP) and Jack Snodgrass (7.2IP) all pitched at least six innings. It was the first time this season the Squirrels staff went six or more innings in three consecutive games INTO THE RECORD BOOKS: The Squirrels set a franchise record with 20 runs in a single game on Sunday vs. Altoona.The previous record was 16 runs, accomplished back in 2010. The game lasted three hours and fifty-five minutes, also a franchise record for the longest a nine-inning game ITS OUTTA HERE: The Squirrels played 531 games in franchise history before they were able to hit four home runs in one contest.They managed to then hit four homers on consecutive nights both Saturday and Sunday. The Squirrels launched four hom- ers on Sunday with Jarrett Parker (2) Ryan Lollis and Brett Krill going deep. Parker was the catalyst on Saturday as well with two of the four homers along with.
