Principal’s Report – Mr Kerry Kurtz School Reports Student reports will be sent home in Week 10 this term. As we say each time reports go home, if your child’s report comes home to you and there is a mistake of any kind, please inform us so we can correct the mistake and reprint it for you. Reports are carefully written by the teachers and proofread by stage supervisors as well as myself, but typographical errors are unfortunately occasionally missed. We certainly don’t want you to have a report with a mistake of any kind in it so we are very happy to promptly correct and reprint the report for you. Basketball Knockouts What a fantastic effort by our PSSA Knockout basketball teams. Both teams won all of their matches in the two gala days on Tuesday and Wednesday in Tamworth. They have now qualified and have made it to the final eight in the state to compete for the state titles in Bathurst on 11 September 2017. We are very proud of both teams!! A big thanks to Mrs McGuckin and Miss Taylor who accompanied and coached the boys and girls at the gala days. See Mrs McGuckin’s report later on in the newsletter. School Photos We had our school photos taken today. A huge thanks to Mrs Nott who is the coordinator of our photo day here at school. The day went smoothly with our students looking wonderful in their winter school uniforms. Thanks must also go to our P & C who organised parent helpers for the day to straighten ties and check our uniforms were all tucked in. Fidget Spinner Maths Fidget spinners are the craze around the country at the moment with them coming in a wide variety of different shapes and colours. At the moment students are being sensible with them and know they are not allowed to play with them in class. In 5/6W, the class were using fidget spinners this week to complete a variety of maths lessons.

Chicken Pox There has been a case of chicken pox here at school. Please make sure you check your
children for any spots that may occur and if they do have any please contact a doctor
to obtain a medical certificate for your child not attending school.
The symptoms of chickenpox include:
low-grade fever
general discomfort, illness or lack of wellbeing (malaise)
intensely itchy skin rash – appears as small blisters surrounded by irregularly-
shaped patches of inflamed skin. The blisters first form on the body and later
on the head and limbs. They usually burst and develop crusts after about five
days

Girls Basketball Right from the start, we could tell it was going to be a great day! Tuesday 13 June 2017 was action packed, for
nine young basketball players from Quirinid Public School. Tayah Riley, Brianna Clark, Jessica Golland, Lil y
Owen, Bridie Douglas, Evie Gimbert, Hallee Nean-Bullpit, Paige Sevil and Miley Clark won five of five games at
the Tamworth Gala Day, at Tamworth Sports Dome. They played Werris Creek, Timbumburi, Tamworth South,
Hillview, and finally Gunnedah South. The girls worked well as team. They showed good sportsmanship
throughout the day. Thank you to the parents who scored for us on the bench, Jenny Golland, Tammie Clark and
Tamie Douglas. Sonja Taylor lead our team to victory as coach! Thank you for your dedication and passion Sonja.
(absent Phoebe Hallman)
Boy Basketball Skill and sportsmanship were on show on Wednesday 14 June, from our Quirindi Public School boys basketball
team. Lachlan McGuckin, Keenan Davis, Luke Quigley, Liam Durie, Sam Widdis, Jasper Thistle, Ben Slattery-
Saunders, Thomas Whyte and Oscar Perkins played with passion to take four convincing wins at the Tamworth
Sports Dome. We were victorious over Hillview 74 to 13, Nemingha 70 to 14, South Tamworth 67 to 17 and in
the final, Sandon Armidale 66 to 9. An outstanding effort from all our boys, congratulations to you all. Thank
you to Sonja Taylor for coaching and Peter Thistle and Tamara Slattery for benching. Congratulations also to
Craig Long for a well organised competition over the two days. (absent Riley Gimbert and Daniel Robertson)
Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Program Being in the kitchen isn't only about cooking. The
students involved in the program are responsible for
the preparation of the ingredients and also for being
responsible for cleaning up after themselves. Today the
children created panko carrot and cheese patties made
two ways, fried and baked.
They also made honey and sesame seed chickpeas which
were roasted until crunchy and delicious. Many of the
children had never had chickpeas before so it was a new
taste experience. So remember parents, ask your children to do the dishes occasionally so they can show off
their amazing kitchen skills at home.
