Up, Up and Away!
Pioneer Consortium Council Membership Meeting March 31, 2016
Pioneer, Bibliovation, Code Fusion, Pioneer Grant Project & Futures
Committee
Pioneer Pioneer is not just a low-cost, full-function ILS but an essential
statewide library development initiative We are Pioneers, we started out on a journey, have endured, and keep
banding together to make a better life for Nebraska libraries Pioneer includes 22 libraries, will be 24 in May, and we want to
continually grow and evolve Koha - “open source”, freely available – that was the first step Second step: PTFS/Liblime takes Koha and keeps improving it for our
and others’ benefit through open development – so we can continually grow and evolve
Bibliovation represents the next step in our growth, and it is a big one
http://nepioneer.com
Koha Open Development at work through PTFS/Liblime’s Bibliovation
Bibliovation puts nextgen into Pioneer’s ILS FISMA-certified to safeguard PTFS
systems and our information assets, and hosted in a FedRAMP-
compliant hosting facility
Rest API-based
Code Fusion Bibliovation exists right now – PTFS/Liblime government
development work for past two years is now benefiting us PTFS Liblime has turned to merging the codes for two
development streams – public and academic Pioneer, SCLS, CLiC, WALDO and others are sponsoring
development for the code fusion Working right now: John Rose, PTFS/Liblime (formerly with
Innovative), Patrick Jones, Executive Director of PTFS/LibLime, PTFS coders and developers, and the sponsors
Pioneers involved: Allie (WNCC) and Gerianne (GIPL) with Business Agent Steve
Next slide shows first-gen CONCEPTS, not actual look/feel/functionality – get a feel for what is possible without getting into the technical weeds yet, that time will come!
In meantime, Gerianne ([email protected]) and Allie ([email protected]) need wishlist items from you. Be specific. For example: when adding a new patron, either show only our library’s pcat’s or have dropdown by library, then by our pcat’s.
Another idea: Streamline this long list for Mass Deletes to Better Manage Acq Suggestions
2016 Pioneer Federal Grant through NLC Current Member Empowerment Major ILS Improvement & Future Statewide Member Expansion professional-level training and “local-library-level” technical
support brought to Nebraska for current Pioneer members professional-level public information sessions and materials for

our development costs for the Bibliovation upgrade Expend by end of September 2016 Meet our expected outcomes (next slide)

And Now on to the Future(s) Futures Committee – Allison (Holdrege), Allie (WNCC), Steve
(Grand Island), Richard Miller NLC liaison We can coordinate the grant – with your help We will coordinate with Geri and Allie on code fusion, and POC
with help of Allison, NLC Cataloger We will emphasize long-term sustainability We will start addressing all of our statewide library development

collections of Member Libraries; To enhance cooperative electronic and physical document
delivery of materials held by Member Libraries; To provide access to electronic resources other than the
union catalog to Member Libraries and their patrons; and To support cooperative collection development activities by
