What is UOWx?
UOWx contributes directly to the University
of Wollongong (UOW)’s goal of developing
graduates who are 21st Century learners by
providing a framework to encourage,
recognise and record students’ co-curricular
learning experiences for future employers.
“The main things I have learnt from my experiences is how to work with people, how to communicate, and how to be organised. I now have the skills to talk to so many different people.” - SAMMI

UOWx Record UOWx Award
2016 2017 2018 (to date)
Document title17
1. Strong relationships with 6 large local community organisations, with
students actively giving back to their local community;
2. 70 students in 2018 actively involved and reflecting on their
community volunteering outside of UOW’s partner community
organisations;
3. Students participating in online modules that increase their capacity for
service learning and engage with the community.
Impact – Community
“UOWx provides real-life experiences; enhances professional development; provides valuable networking platforms, and unanimously aids in self-realisation.”
- SACHIE
“My co-curricular experiences taught me a lot about myself as a person, and the way in which my confidence and communication skills could be used to help other people.” - LARA
Document title18
1. All students enrolled in the UOWx Award Program are mentored by
industry employers;
2. A collaborative approach to communications to industry;
3. The development of student-facing workshops to develop student
capacity to articulate their co-curricular experiences to employers;
4. UOWx Award ceremonies held in collaboration with local business
chambers.
Impact – Employability
“The diversity in the activities available has enabled me to work on my weaknesses, develop my strengths, and has taught me how to become more
adaptable and versatile in different environments.” - NICOLE
“I gained so much more than what I originally anticipated such as overcoming my fear of public speaking, developing my leadership and communication skills, and connecting with people.” - AMMAR
Document title19
Impact – Whole Student
“Throughout more than two
years of mingling amongst
proactive people, the UOWx
experience has had
meaningful impact on my
personal growth. I become
more active and have
discovered more about myself,
and more importantly, I know
what I want to do in the
future. I am so excited to see
how far I can go and how
much I could improve in the
near future.”- ANN
“My experiences showed me
that I could develop a unique
style of leadership and I learnt
to confront challenges with
confidence. The learning
environment at UOW taught
me that it is ok to fail and that
I should keep going and keep
learning so that I can achieve
my goals. Rather than develop
a specific path, I have learnt to
value conviviality, being good
to people, and working hard
for a positive impact.”- TOM
“These opportunities will teach
you so much that you didn’t
realise you needed to learn. I
have learnt so much about
myself and developed so many
new skills. In particular, I have
built my confidence and
communication skills. This has
involved a lot of self-reflection
as I learnt how to do what was
required in the role while also
being myself. I’ve learnt a lot
about organisation and
problem solving as well.”- CARINA
