Diane Sue Mey A Celebration of the Life of Born: December 10th, 1950 Baptized: January 17th, 1951 Confirmed: May 23rd, 1965 Entered the Church Triumphant: December 7th, 2015 It always seemed natural for me to switch from Diane to Sue depending on whether Sue was at school or church or with family. We joked about it but it fit her personality. She was a woman who loved her career but also loved her family. Above all else she was a teacher. I can remember early on in our relationship talking about 1 Corinthians 12:28 where it says, “And God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues…” Teaching was really important to her and she pointed out that it was to God as well. She saw it as a spiritual gift to be shared personally and professionally. She did that. Whether little children at Hailmann, kids at church, bible studies, or right at home - she was teaching. She left her mark - a life well lived. Last Saturday I was searching for something in one of her bible study bags. It was one with Luther’s seal on it that I had given her several years ago. In it were just two things: her Small Catechism, with all kinds of notes and quotes, and a small brown stone with reflective lettering on it that said simply, “Heaven.” As much as she was loved by her family and friends she knew there was someone who loved her more - Jesus. Like all of us there may have been that part of her that was afraid but she longed to be whole and complete and knew that could only happen in heaven. She would want all of her family and friends there with her for the great banquet - she loved a good party. She would want you to know that peace and promise. Jesus said in Mark 9:23, “ everything is possible for one who believes.” And like the Father, to whom Jesus spoke, we cry out in our mortal nature, “I do believe - help me overcome my unbelief!” We are on a pilgrimage of faith my friends - we walk by faith and not by sight. Keep going - keep growing - keep learning. With Love, Dennis “Harry”

It always seemed natural for me to switch from Diane to Sue depending on whether Sue was at school or church or with family.

We the church share the grief of those who mourn and we remember the brevity of life on earth. Today we celebrate Diane Sue Meyer and her life in Christ and we thank God for this beloved child of God. Trusting in God’s promise in baptism that we are claimed by Christ forever, we rest in the sure hope of the resurrection. We remember Christ crucified and risen is the source of our worship, the strength of mutual support, and the hope of eternal life

Thanks-Living Cards In the Meyer home we had a “thanks-living” book on the kitchen table. All family, friends, and guests were invited to write in it and share things that they were thankful for. Some were simple and some were deeply moving - all were important. Please fill out the card in your bulletin and share what you are thankful for - it doesn’t have to be just for Diane “Sue” but for what God moves you to give thanks for. Living thankfully is a God honoring way to live. Leave them in the basket by the center desk or by one of the exits.

Thanks to each of you, our family, neighbors, and friends for your love and support, and for being here today. Special thanks to Tim and Jen Trout and the Red Arrow Roadhouse for all of today’s reception arrangements. Jen and Sue taught Confirmation together and our friendship with Tim and Jen has been very special. Thanks also to Barry Happel for his help with our photography needs.
