Everyone gets 100%! At the completion of this course you will be an expert on the soft tissue and radiographic entities that every dentist and hygienist should know. Some interesting cases will “pop up.” Be ready for a real oral pathology adventure. We go over the entities together in an interactive format. It gives you a chance to see what you really know and what you have forgotten since school. This is the test that I give the junior dental students that they have to pass at 100% proficiency to go on to the senior year. Are you ready and able to take the challenge? Let’s have some fun and learn material that every dentist and hygienist must know to be able to protect the health and welfare of your patients. Objectives 1. Become proficient in the entities that every dentist and hygienist should be able to recognize and treat. 2. Recognize good from bad and know when a biopsy is necessary. 3. Learn to recognize and treat the common oral diseases. 4. Learn the medications that successfully treat the common oral diseases. 5. Recognize the premalignant lesions that are associated with oral cancer. 6. Recognize the importance of vaccines in the prevention of oropharyngeal cancer. 7. Recognize and diagnose pigmented oral lesions and melanoma. 8. Learn the common entities found on radiographs and when a biopsy is necessary. 9. Learn the importance of decompression in the treatment of large lesions found on radiographs. 10. During the case portion of the seminars, recognize the important syndromes with oral manifestations. 11. Recognize dermatologic diseases that have oral manifestations. 12. Test yourself to see where you fit in the oral pathology “food chain.” Think of it as your oral pathology FICA score. Are you ready for the challenge? In part two and three of this three-part series you will be given cases in which you are to develop a differential diagnosis and treatment plan. This will reinforce what you have learned and further reinforce your confidence in diagnosis and treatment. I will give you the cases prior to be course to give you an opportunity to prepare. This is not necessary for the course since they will all be covered in the program. The goal is to have you experience a clinical pathology webinar in the comfort of your own home, accumulating a group of cases that you can use to educate your colleagues. Tobacco advertising will be exposed and the link between human papilloma virus and oral cancer discussed. Treatment of oral cancer and oropharyngeal cancer will be presented. SCDS Distinguished Dental Services Academy

History Nomination Selection

The Distinguished Dental Service Academy was

established by theStark County

Dental Society in 1999 with the

Charter Class inductedin 2000.

The purpose of the Distinguished Dental

Service Academy is to recognize and honor

members of the Stark County

Dental Society for distinguished service

to their patients, the Mission of the Society,

their profession, and the Stark, Wayne, and Carroll

County communities.

The Induction Dinner shall be held bi-annually

in the spring.

Criteria: 25 years of service and

60 years of age

Active member of the Stark County Dental Society

for 20 years

Meritorious efforts in at least one of the following:

Organized dentistry at any level

Clinical dentistry including research or teaching

Community service/ humanitarian efforts

Nomination Committee: The official Nomination Committee of the SCDS Distinguished Dental

Service Academy shall be composed of 7 members of the

SCDS with the presiding President-elect serving as Chair.

The Charter Class of 2000 was limited to a total of six.

Succeeding classes of Inductees shall be limited to a total of five:a maximum of 3 living Inductees and 2 inducted posthumously.

Selection of Charter and all succeeding classes shall be made by the official Selection Committee of the SCDS Distinguished Dental

Service Academy.

Nominees shall remain eligible for selection for a period of six years.

Selection Committee: The official Selection Committee

of the SCDS Distinguished Dental Service Academy shall be

composed of 7 members of the SCDS with the presiding

President serving as Chair.
