UofT Wireless Network Transition Guide for Returning Rotman or Existing U of T Students

Rotman Computing Services now supports the new University wireless network, UofT. The UofT wireless

network is a more robust and safe option for connecting to the internet while at Rotman. We are

encouraging students to begin to use this network over the old UTORwin wireless network. This guide

will instruct you on how to transition from UTORwin to UofT.

Why migrate to the new UofT wireless network?

Unlike UTORwin, the new UofT Wireless network does not require a browser‐based UTORid login each

time you connect. You will only need to authenticate once on your laptop. Thereafter, when you enter a

University wireless zone, your laptop will automatically associate and log into the wireless network,

requiring no further intervention. This will allow you to roam between buildings and even between

campuses without the need to re‐enter your credentials and without connection timeouts. This

automatic authentication combined with the latest wireless encryption technology, makes this new

wireless network secure and convenient.

The new network also supports wireless b, g and n protocols which translate into faster, more reliable

connections for laptops that are capable of wireless n.

Migrate in 4 easy steps…

To migrate to the new UofT wireless network, please go through the following 4 sections:

1. Verify your UTORid

2. Determine your operating system

3. Add the UofT wireless network

4. Remove the UTORwin wireless network

Page 3: University of Toronto Wireless Network Transition Guide

1. Verify your UTORid

Before you can join the new UofT Wireless network, you must first verify your UTORid and password.

Note: You will not be able to connect to the UofT Wireless network without first successfully

completing the following instructions  (you will only need to do this once).

1. On an internet connected PC, open a web browser and go to https://www.utorid.utoronto.ca/cgi‐bin/utorid/verify.pl.

2. Enter your UTORid (can be found on your T‐Card) and password and click Check. You should see a message stating “Your UTORid and password have been checked and should work.” If you do not see this message, please contact the U of T Central Help Desk (978‐HELP, [email protected]). The Rotman Help Desk will not be able to assist you with any issues. As a part of the verification process, there will be a short delay between verifying and being able to access new UofT wireless network.
