    Introduction

LIMSTEEL Standalone is a user-friendly program for the limit states design of steel members and

connectors according to AS 4100-1998, NZS 3404-1997, and of Duragal members according to AS/NZS

4600-1996. The program can also proportion plate web and box girders and their stiffeners.

The new Windows version of the long-established LIMSTEEL Standalone now allows the design of steelstructures to be carried out in a Windows environment, and to be combined with other Windows

programs such as word processors and drawing and graphics programs.

LIMSTEELcan both check existing steel members or design them by finding the lightest member that is

necessary. Member actions include moments, tension or compression, shear, bearing and combinations.

Members can be considered one at a time, or in groups by saving data to file, thus allowing future

revisions to be made with minimum effort.

LIMSTEEL can check or design connectors, including butt and fillet welds, bearing and friction-grip

    bolts, plies and pins.

LIMSTEELcan proportion welded plate web and box section girders for deflection, moment, axial forceand shear, and their properties can be calculated automatically and saved in libraries for future use.

LIMSTEELcan proportion load-bearing, intermediate and longitudinal stiffeners, and end plates.

Libraries contain data for a full range of Australian sections, and libraries of welded plate web and box

    section girders can be developed.

    LIMSTEEL is

Cost saving in time and materials

Greatly reduced design times and more economical structures.

    Easy to use

Active help facilitates the selection of the design data and the calculation of intermediate quantities.

    Self-contained

Libraries of section, material, and design data remove the need for external design information.

    Reliable and accurate

More than 8 years of error-free use. Eliminates user errors of manual data transfer, calculation, and logic.

    Authoritative

Developed at the University of Sydney under the direction of Professor NS Trahair, one of the principal

contributors to AS 4100, and author of design textbooks and design aids. Marketed through the

Australian Steel Institute, Australias leading technical information organization for steel construction.

    Informative and educational

Pop-up help screens give advice on design inputs and code rules.

    Self-reporting

Wide range of reporting options available on screen and for printing, including code governing clauses,

intermediate results, action/capacity ratios and design equations.

    Compatible with Microsoft WORD

Reports and screen graphics can be saved into WORD documents and combined with other material to

    produce wider-ranging reports.

    LIMSTEEL LITE

LIMSTEEL LITE is a reduced student version of LIMSTEEL available free of charge. LIMSTEEL LITE

allows the user to check one AS 4100 member at a time. The other data input screens for NZS 3404 and

AS/NZS 4600 members, plate web girders and welded box sections, stiffeners and connectors have been

disabled, but remain visible to the user. LIMSTEEL LITE can only check hot-rolled I-sections and

rectangular and square hollow sections, and does not allow a report to be generated. LIMSTEEL LITE is

included in the LIMSTEEL setup package. The program file name is LSLITE.exe. No site key is required

    to run this program.

    System Requirements

LIMSTEEL Standalone has been developed to run under Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP.

    LIMSTEEL Screens

LIMSTEEL consists of a number of screens which allow the entry of data, the calculation of intermediate

values, the display or reporting of results, the choice of one of a number of alternative values or

procedures, and the display of advice or information.

Below are a number of examples of these screens.
