Do you want to further your qualifications? Perhaps you have professional experience but never studied at university, or you may have anundergraduate degree and want to learn something new? The graduate certificate is a valuable qualification in itself, or it can be used to progress into further study.

A graduate diploma is the perfect stepping stone to a masters degree. The coursework of our graduate diplomas are very similar to the masters degrees, but offer the flexibility of not having to commit to a full masters degree. If you choose to continue on to do your masters, you can receive course credits for successfully completed graduate diploma subjects.

Build upon your existing expertise, or gain knowledge in a new discipline with a coursework masters degree to gain significant career advantage. Some masters contain research courses which develop valuable research skills needed to gain entry into a doctorate or PhD degree.

SpecialisationsAGRIBUSINESS You will become an intrinsic component in the transformation of the agribusiness sector with this degree. Designed to produce future managers in the agribusiness sector, you will learn how to effectively operate in the unique business conditions that agriculture presents, adapt relevant technology to increase profitability, and build your understanding of the factors that impact on the supply of goods in and out of an agribusiness.

DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION In completing this specialisation, you will have a thorough understanding of business intelligence systems and of their practical uses. The architecture, implementation, and practical application and use of business intelligence are considered in current and real-life contexts. You will also be equipped with knowledge on how to identify an organisation’s strategic issues.

FINANCE You will learn financial concepts, many of which have domestic and global applications, be exposed to the tools and concepts of basic finance, financial statements, and gain an overview of the structure and operation of the global financial system. You will also gain real-world knowledge by examining financial institutions and topics.

APPLIED DATA SCIENCE The Applied Data Science specialisation will allow you to incorporate four courses from a chosen discipline and work on a discipline-based research project to complement your big data technology training. You also have the opportunity to choose between either the research track or professional studies track in this unique masters degree.

ASTROPHYSICS You will be introduced to planetary science, including physical processes in the solar system, and gain an understanding of our place in the universe and our cosmic origins. You will also have an opportunity to study physics, stellar astronomy and galactic astronomy, and apply concepts in observational astronomy. ENVIRONMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY Discuss the emergence of environmental issues and systems at the global scale, discover the tools and techniques for sustainable development, and aspects of conservation for sustainable futures. Why study this degree?The Doctor of Professional Studies allows you to combine your professional work with study and obtain a doctoral degree based entirely in your workplace.The knowledge you gain throughout your studies will lead to benefits for both you and the organisation you work for. You will critically review resources, and address theoretical and practical issues in your workplace by designing and implementing projects. It is expected that the documented results of your projects will be able to be used to improve one or more aspects of your workplace.

• a minimum 5 years of experience in your field.

Why study this degree?Graduate sooner with USQ’s Master of Psychology/PhD (Clinical Psychology) combined degree. In just four years, you can become a fully qualified psychologist with 1200 hours’ experience and two degrees. It provides advanced training in psychological assessment and clinical intervention, combined with a high level of research knowledge and skills the PhD supplies.Through your studies, you will become a specialist psychologist with an in-depth knowledge to tackle emerging and current themes in the mental wellbeing of your clients.

Entry requirements• Completed the first year of the Master of Psychology (Clinical), or

other APAC-accredited degree, with a GPA of 6.0 or higher. See entry requirements into the Master of Psychology (Clinical) on page 52.

• Submit a thesis proposal.

• Students from non-English-speaking backgrounds are required to satisfy English language requirements. This degree requires a minimum of IELTS 7.0 or equivalent.

Professional recognitionAs a graduate of the Master of Psychology/PhD (Clinical Psychology), you can apply for general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia, and full membership to the Australian Psychological Society. In addition, you can apply for Clinical Psychology endorsement with the Psychology Board of Australia after a period of supervised practice, and admission to the College of Clinical Psychology of the Australian Psychological Society after a period of supervised practice.

Practical experience You are required to accumulate a minimum of 1000 hours of practical experience, with at least 180 hours of that being supervised by a registered psychologist who is a member of the Australian Psychological Society Clinical College.

Why study this degree?The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is a research degree available in all study areas, and provides you with the skills to become an effective researcher in your previously studied discipline. By undertaking a Doctor of Philosophy, you will have expansive intellectual freedom to be able to make an original and substantial contribution to your area of study.

Entry requirementsStudents from non-English-speaking backgrounds are required to satisfy English language requirements. This degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.

Applicants must have one of the following:• approved bachelor degree with First Class Honours or Second

Class Honours (Division A), or equivalent, from a recognised university

or

• approved masters degree (with a significant research component), or equivalent, from a recognised university

or

• other qualifications and/or experiences equivalent to a minimum Second Class Honours (Division A), as deemed appropriate upon application.

NOTENormally, all students will be enrolled as provisional candidates, with their status being reviewed within 12 months’ full-time or 24 months’ part-time enrolment. The Confirmation of Candidature process consists of two components: a written document and an oral presentation to a review panel, leading to a recommendation on Confirmation of Candidature.Application forms and information on how to apply can be viewed at usq.edu.au/research Intending students are advised to allow several months for discussion with potential supervisors and for consideration of the application prior to the commencement of the degree.

SupervisionYou can start your PhD at any time during the year; however, ideally you would commence at the beginning of Semesters 1 or 2. To start your PhD, you need to clarify your research topic and seek an academic staff member to be your supervisor. This can sometimes take time, so it is wise to allow several months for discussion with potential supervisors and for consideration of your application.

What does university study cost?There are three main costs incurred from university study: • program fees • Student Services and Amenities Fee• textbooks.

Program feesTuition fees can vary, depending on the degree or courses you are enrolled in. But never fear, there is financial support available.

Eligible students can access student loans to help to pay for program fees.

HECS-HELP HECS-HELP is a loan that helps eligible Commonwealth-supported students to pay their tuition fees. Students can choose to pay some or all of their fees up front. HECS-HELP enables students to make repayments via the tax system when their income reaches a certain level.

OS-HELP OS-HELP is a loan that assists eligible Commonwealth-supported students study a semester overseas. The OS-HELP loan can help you with airfares and accommodation.

FEE-HELP FEE-HELP is a loan that helps eligible full-tuition-paying students pay their tuition fees.

RTS Research Training Scheme (RTS) is available to all Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents and New Zealand citizens commencing a higher research degree. They will have their tuition fees paid for by the Australian Federal Government under RTS. The RTS place entitles a student to a maximum period of four years, exemption on tuition fees for a PhD program and two years for a masters program.

Fee assistance is available to Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens and students holding permanent humanitarian visa provided they meet the citizenship and residency criteria.

TextbooksYou will most likely need a prescribed textbook for each subject you study at university. Textbooks can cost between $30 and $200.
