Class Activities

1- Lectures:

• Staff college of the pediatric department and MOH.

is going to be involved.

• Lectures, due to the limitation of allocated time, will

put emphasis on certain parts of the topic. However,

students are urged to study on their own to cover the

whole subject. This will be achieved through reading

from the reference books chosen by the department.

• Always remember that lectures are not

references.

2. Tutorial :

1. For the assigned topics the class has been divided into subgroups each one of them should present the a topic as a floor show .

2. A group needs to be together long enough to allow good group dynamics to develop, so each member of the group should actively participate in preparation and presentation.

3.Problem Based Learning (Problem

Solving):

This will present a clinical scenario , with

some key information to explore the

problem, assessing what is needed, sharing

knowledge, solving the problem and giving

feedback.

Clinical clerkship 1Rounds

-Pediatric hospital staff in collaboration with the faculty staff

is going to arrange and teach the students in the clinical

rounds.

- On the day of the clinical teaching session students should:

1.Prepare at least two fully clerked patients.

2.Participate in the discussion of one or more cases.

3.Be able to present a case of a clerked patient during any teaching

round.

• The clinical teaching sessions are run 2-3

days a week.

• Attendance during all sessions is mandatory.

• Any missed session will result in one

mark deduction.

• Students who are absent more than 20 % of

the sessions are not illegible to sit for end of

posting exam.

2.Clinics:

Pediatric Clinics• Six pediatric clinics /week, each clinic will

accommodate 3 students. • Number of patients expected to be seen is 20

pt. with 15 minutes allocated for each.• Interested cases will be picked up by the

consultant for systemic examination and discussion.

• Always remember to behave as doctors.• According to the timetable each student

should attend 3 clinics.

3.Evening RoundsEmergency Room• This give a chance to stay as long as

possible in the hospital between 4-8 pm/once every 3 weeks.

• Student should stay in the pediatric E/R to see the acute presentation and the management of the variant pediatric emergencies and know how to approach problems of critical nature and its assessment at presentation.
