Recent development on campus has seen the construction of new student accommodation, a GP Super Clinic and a sports hub, housing the University of Canberra Brumbies Super Rugby team and other elite and community–based sporting bodies. Future development will include a hospital.

These developments will be integrated into our teaching and research programs and the new facilities will also provide us with new avenues to serve the community.

Ours is a small, friendly and welcoming campus. In a recent survey one respondent described the university as “boutique, with a friendly atmosphere, sense of development and forward momentum”.

RATIH DHEWI Ratih Dhewi is a World Bank scholarship awardee from Indonesia and currently undertaking Doctor of Philosophy in Management. Her research is on Sustainable Human Resource Management from the perspective of sustainability to continuously foster capacity development.

During her time at UC, she created a website puzzleminds.com, which allows contributors from around the world the opportunity to provide positive criticism, facilitate discussions, and exchange idea on Indonesia’s future. Since its establishment, the website has gained media attention in Australia and Indonesia.

Set in a native haven of clean air, tall trees and huge expanses of lawn, you’ll enjoy the company of Australian wildlife including parrots, cockatoos and even resident kangaroos.

Despite its peaceful setting, the campus is an exciting and inspiring place to be.

While study will always remain your priority, there are plenty of opportunities to socialise with your fellow students. There are concerts including our famous music festival Groovin’ the Moo, market days, dinners and different sorts of theatre from all over the world.

There are also a number of clubs and societies you’re welcome to join. These range from social to cultural and are a great way to meet others who share your interests.

If you like to keep fit there’s a sports and fitness centre that includes a gymnasium as well as squash, basketball, volleyball and tennis courts, plus ovals for all football codes.

Our interest in sport doesn’t stop there either. As well as enjoying a close relationship with the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), we’re partners with the Brumbies rugby team, the Canberra Capitals basketball team and the Canberra United women’s soccer team.

When it comes time to unwind and relax with friends, you won’t have to travel far at all. There are bars, coffee shops and restaurants all right here on campus.

Canberra is a unique place. It is the capital of Australia and as you’d expect from a city whose inhabitants run one of the world’s top 20 economies, it’s vibrant and cosmopolitan.

Of course, it’s the quality of Australian sports people that draws such huge crowds and it’s that quality that we celebrate and encourage.

We love our sport at the University of Canberra, too, so we’re delighted that our sporting partners, the Brumbies rugby team, has moved its operations on campus to become part of our Sports Hub.

As well as training facilities and administration offices for the Brumbies, the Sports Hub has a state-of-the-art gymnasium for use by everyone in the University community and state of the art research facilities.

The Sports Hub supports every level of sporting activity whether it’s elite, grass roots, community or university. After all, it’s the health and fitness benefits as well as the camaraderie and enjoyment that really matters.

The University has an impressive record in research and teaching when it comes to sport and the Sports Hub is helping to further enhance that reputation.

We also have an impressive record when it comes to our own athletes. In 2012, University of Canberra athletes won 14 medals at the London Paralympics and Olympic Games.

Other sporting teams are interested in making the Sports Hub their home, too. This includes our other sporting partners, the University of Canberra Capitals basketball team and the Canberra United women’s soccer team.

The University also works closely with the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in a partnership that helps individuals achieve both their academic and sporting goals.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ACCOMMODATION GUARANTEE 2015That’s right, we’ve all heard stories about how difficult student accommodation can be to find, well not at UC!

The University of Canberra accommodation providers at Bruce campus will offer guaranteed accommodation for international students in 2015. International students can apply for guaranteed accommodation at any time during their study and the guaranteed accommodation is for the duration of their degree. Yes, we guarantee it!

OFF-CAMPUS ACCOMMODATIONThe University of Canberra accommodation website contains information about off-campus accommodation options including family homes, apartments and share-house accommodation. Family homes and apartments cost from $380 to $450 a week depending on the size and number of bedrooms. Share-house cost is approximately $170 to $200 a week.

24-HOUR COMPUTER CENTREYou’ll have 24-hour access to the University’s Computer Centre, which has networked Macs and PCs as well as scanning, printing and photocopying facilities. There’s free wireless access for laptops, free email and you get a yearly Internet allocation to assist with your study.

OUR LIBRARY HAS IT ALLThe University’s library has a huge array of print, multimedia and electronic resources to meet your study and research needs. There are also computers for research, private spaces for individual or group study, and printing and photocopying facilities. Dressed in distinctive blue shirts, Library Rovers are available to help you with any queries you may have.

HOW DO I APPLY?

STEP 1Complete the online application form at https://www.canberra.edu.au/applicant/connect/webconnect and attach certified documents as required. If you are unable to attach your supporting documents, you can print the cover sheet and forward your documentation by fax to +61 2 6201 5040 or mail to:

OR

Complete the application form (that can be found on page 103 of this guide) and forward it to the Admissions Office at the University of Canberra or to one of our representative offices in your home country.

STEP 2If your application is successful, we will send you an offer letter. This letter will:

• explain the course into which you have been accepted;

• advise you of any prerequisites that you need to meet before you can be formally accepted into the course;

• confirm the fees that are payable and the course start date, including Enrolment and Orientation Week date;

• include information about on-campus accommodation;

• include an acceptance of offer declaration form for you to complete.

If your application is unsuccessful we will write to you explaining why, and where possible offer you an alternative pathway to your preferred course.

STEP 3You now need to think about applying for a student visa. This process can be lengthy so it is very important you begin researching visa requirements well in advance. The Australian diplomatic mission in your home country can provide you with up-to-date and detailed information on visa procedures. Further information can be obtained from the Department of Immigration and Border Protection website at immi.gov.au/contacts/overseas/

STEP 4You should now send us, or provide to the local representative office where you lodged your initial application, the following:

• the signed acceptance of offer declaration form;

• evidence of preliminary visa approval (if applicable);

• evidence you have met all the conditions as outlined in your offer letter;

• payment for the first semester (either directly to us or through your local representative who assisted with your application process) of the total fees payable stated in the offer letter, in Australian dollars, by either of the methods outlined below. Please note that for certain countries, a payment of one year tuition fees might be required. YOU HAVE TWO PAYMENT OPTIONSThe University of Canberra’s preferred method of payment for international students is through Western Union Business Solutions. It’s a safe and fast payment method that lets you pay in your local currency.

Please ensure that you have your offer letter to hand when you make a payment because you will need it to identify the sum you must pay and your student ID number.

ENROLMENT REQUIREMENTSAs a condition of the student visa, international students in Australia are required to study full-time for the duration of their course. Students are not permitted to study part-time unless they are already in Australia on a spouse visa, or on a diplomatic or dependent temporary resident visa.

OVERSEAS HEALTH COVER IS COMPULSORY All international students studying at the University of Canberra are required to have Overseas Student Heath Cover (OSHC) for the length of their visa. The University’s preferred provider of OSHC is Allianz Global Assistance.

STEP 5Once we receive a signed acceptance form and confirmation of payment we will send you an Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCOE). This form confirms your acceptance at the University of Canberra. You will need to supply your eCOE to the diplomatic mission in order to obtain your student visa.

STEP 6Obtain your student visa. The Australian diplomatic mission in your country will explain the requirements that you must meet to obtain a student visa. If you have applied through one of our overseas representatives’ offices, those representatives will also be able to assist you with these procedures.

INTENSIVE ENGLISH LANGUAGE COURSES English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) are accredited, full-time courses for international students who want to improve their English as effectively and quickly as they can.

Our range of intensive English courses will help you reach your personal and academic goals.

Each course begins with an Orientation Program and concludes with assessment, an excursion and all students receive a certificate of attainment.

You will be required to participate in 20 hours a week of intensive classroom instruction.
