What is government?
The administration of public policy and affairs of an area.
Definition of government…
Democracy – government exercised directly through the people or elected representatives
Republic - a state in which the supreme power rests in the body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by representatives chosen directly or indirectly by them
Absolute Monarch – a country that is ruled by a monarch (king or queen)
What types of governments exist?
Constitutional Monarchy – monarch who governs under the confines and limits of a constitution.
Aristocracy – a government run by higher society of people who own most of the land.
Oligarchy – government by a few people.
Theocracy – government by a religious group
What are important characteristics in a government leader?

What established the government we have today?
We, the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
