Case Study:Southern Company EMS

‣ The Situation – The customer needed a solution to place tape libraries in three

locations. The customer’s goal were performance, capacity andexpandability in a modular solution.

‣  The Solution

 – The SL500 provided the performance and capacity needed and all ina modular solution. This was important to them given their need tosave space in their datacenter. In addition to the SL500 library,Unitiv designed a backup solution including backup software andmedia servers.

 – The customer was very pleased with the implementation and thefunctionality of the tape library. Since the initial investment in 2008,the customer has requested upgrades to the environment.

Case Study: A.D.A.M.

‣ The Situation – Backing up data using a tape library with LTO1 tapes

 – Successful backups were never guaranteed because of ongoing tapeissues and the day-to-day realities of backing up remotely

 – Full backups seven days a week, stretched to 12 hours or more eachnight

‣  The Solution – Upon Unitiv’s recommendation, A.D.A.M. purchased an ExaGrid disk-

based backup system and installed it in its co-location facility. TheExaGrid system works in conjunction with A.D.A.M.’s existing backupapplication, CA ARCserve™ Backup.

 – The company now runs incremental backups nightly and full backupseach weekend. Incremental backups now only take 30 minutes and

full backups have been reduced to less than four hours.

Case Study: The Times-Picayune

‣ The Situation – New content publishing software suite from Digital Technology

International (DTI) was to be implemented as a new environmentwhich also included new hardware, Solaris configuration, VeritasCluster and Oracle 10g with Data Guard.

‣  The Solution

 – The project began with the purchase of one V890 and three V490 Sun

servers along with cluster licenses and a Sun Rack. Unitiv connectedthe new servers to an existing EMC storage array and to a KVM over IP. Unitiv installed and patched Oracle 10g and Oracle Data Guard.

 – Unitiv engineers worked together with DTI in order to ensure completeinteroperability between the DTI software and the new environment.Unitiv engineers supported the customer’s efforts in understandingand maintaining their new environment.
