UnitedHealth Group has been awarded the 2011 Outstanding Corporate Innovator Award by the Product Development and Management Association (PDMA), marking the first time a health benefits and services organization has been honored.

In its 24th year, the award recognizes companies that create measurable customer value through product and service innovation on a sustained basis.

According to the PDMA, UnitedHealth Group was selected on the basis of its relentless focus on nurturing and supporting innovation across the enterprise; use of information, technology and deep clinical knowledge to identify and develop breakthrough opportunities; and our leadership’s commitment to transformation in the rapidly evolving health care environment.

Thirty-four companies from around the world were nominated. Past winners include Apple, Pepsi-Cola, Corning, IBM, Xerox, BMW and FedEx, among others.
