United Way of Lewis County A Message From United Way President Chris Heck W hile proudly serving as this year’s Board President, I realize and appreciate that we have so many reasons to be thankful. In a community facing challenging economic times – where financial stability seems to elude so many – thousands of you stepped forward to demonstrate your compassion and generosity. I am filled with gratitude for your belief in creating a better life for all in Lewis County. As the United Way of Lewis County enters its 50th year, we reflect on how far we’ve come as an organization, while continuing to focus on where we’d like to go in the future. Over the years, we have evolved on countless levels; however, our mission has remained the same – helping people. Our efforts and focus on “Community Impact” are changing Lewis County for the better. We continue to seek sustainable solutions to the most pressing issues facing our community. Whether it’s the struggles in an abused child’s life; a working family’s financial difficulties; or someone who’s living on the streets; our goal is to not only help these individuals with their immediate need, but get to the root of these problems and identify ways to change the conditions before they become significant issues. United Way has always been about the powerful difference we can make when we come together to help those in need. I’d like to take this opportunity to personally thank you for your support of United Way of Lewis County. As a supporter, you join the ranks of thousands of donors and volunteers who have helped make the work of the United Way possible. We are indebted to our 18 partner agencies for the incredible work they do every day to provide help and instill hope to so many. With resources down and demand at an all-time high, their dedication inspires us all to do more. Again, thank you for your continued generosity and for choosing to LIVE UNITED. Money Well Spent

The best standard for the effectiveness of a nonprofit organization is not how little it takes out of your donation, but rather how much of an impact in your community it achieves with each dollar you invest. United Way of Lewis County amplifies every contribution by investing in exceptional programs, measuring community-level progress, addressing key gaps in the community, strengthening nonprofits, and collaborating with other community organizations.

So much good comes from every generous gift to United Way of Lewis County. Here is a glance at how our operational costs are broken down.

Behind every United Way contribution is a very personal, very powerful commitment to human need. A leadership gift—of $500 or more given directly to United Way of Lewis County—reaches far in our community. Leadership giving is possible for less than $10 per week. Giving at this level helps to support essential programs, such as a week of shelter and counseling for a woman escaping domestic violence.

I want to take this

opportunity to sincerely thank you for your support of United Way of Lewis County.

We could not even begin to accomplish our broad mission of improving the lives of many in our community without it, whether it has been contributing

or volunteering or advocating on behalf of United Way.

It is your wonderful support that enables your United Way to continue to be financially sound and well-managed even in the difficult economic times in which we live. We believe that together we can accomplish far more than any individual or single organization could alone. It’s what we like to call “living united.” Today more than ever, when the challenges we face can seem

overwhelming, it is important to recognize that good things happen when we focus our collective energy on the issues that matter most.

Our futures are linked as individuals, families, businesses and communities across Lewis County. That means when one person succeeds, we all benefit. United Way is committed to changing lives and local conditions by focusing on the building blocks for a good quality of life. Research

and experience shows that these are: a quality education, a stable income, good health, and the ability to meet one’s basic needs.

United Way of Lewis County’s vision is to be a leader in bringing people and resources together to achieve measurable and sustainable improvements in the local quality of life.

As you read through our community report, you will learn about the impact that can be achieved when citizens,

companies, nonprofit partners and others join United Way in a common effort to build a stronger, healthier community. We are pleased to be your partner in caring. As we LIVE UNITED, we can be proud that Lewis County is a caring community that responds to the call to give, advocate, and volunteer.Sincerely,

Debbie Campbell, Exec. Director
