U.S. Foreign
Global trade is forecast higher based on expanded exportable supply. With production expected to exceed consumption, world stocks are currently forecast to partially rebuild, after declining by 18 million bales over the past two years. Some of the trade growth is motivated by consuming countries replenishing stocks throughout the pipeline, and stocks are expected to increase in nearly all major markets. Moderate growth in consumption will also support higher trade levels. Exportable supplies in Brazil and Australia are forecast to be significantly greater, because of their larger beginning stocks and near record production levels. These two countries are expected to capture most of the growth in foreign exports. For the United States, production is forecast slightly lower as the result of unfavorable early-season weather conditions. Coupled with near record low beginning stocks, exportable supply is expected to decline, reducing U.S. exports by 2.0 million bales.
Cotton: World Markets and Trade
Overview The initial forecast for 2011/12 indicates significantly increased production, in response to higher world prices. Consumption is expected to recover from the depressed level of 2010/11. World trade is forecast to expand as exportable supplies move to consuming countries to meet the consumption demand and to help rebuild stocks.
Prices Both the U.S spot price and the A-Index have fallen dramatically in recent weeks. The A-index has declined by 30 percent in the last month and the U.S. Spot price has fallen by over 20 percent.
2011/12 TRADE OUTLOOK Major Exporters:
Brazil is up 2.5 million bales to 4.5 million on large carryover stocks from their record crop.
United States is down 2.0 million bales to 13.5 million on near record low beginning stocks and lower production.
Australia is up 1.3 million bales to 4.3 million due to their record 2010/11 crop.
Major Importers:
China is up 2.5 million bales to 16.0 million as consumption growth outpaces production.
Brazil is down 550,000 bales to 100,000 as their record crop provides sufficient supply.
TRADE CHANGES IN 2010/11 Major Exporters:
United States is lowered 250,000 bales to 15.5 million as late season shipments are pushed into next season.
Brazil is lowered 350,000 bales to 2.0 million as late season shipments are pushed into next season.

Uzbekistan is lowered 200,000 bales to 3.3 million as late season shipments are pushed into next season.
Major Importers:
China is lowered 1.5 million bales to 13.5 million based on a larger domestic crop.
Turkey is raised 250,000 bales to 3.4 million on stronger arrivals.
Pakistan is raised 200,000 bales to 1.5 million on revised data.
