Child Protection Meeting Everyone should have received a letter explaining the Child Protection for our insurance.
This meeting is Mandatory for all adults that work with our children here at URLC. We need to hold this presentation for the adults to listen to, & then sign a form stating that they

WELCA One day Cain and Abel were walking with their father. When they walked
by the Garden of Eden, the boys asked their father, “Dad, why don’t we live
over there?” Adam looked the two and replied, “Sorry boys.” “We used to live there but
your mother ate us out of house and home!”
One of the things Lutherans tend to be known for is eating. As from Pastor
Marggi’s sermon—The food is what they remember!
So you have coming up Dec. 2—Good Food to enjoy. WELCA’s Holiday Festival,
December 2, 11am-1pm, Fellowship Hall. 3 kinds of soup: wild rice, corn
chowder, and tomato basil. 2 kinds of sandwiches: chicken salad and ham salad,
with option of croissants or freshly baked bread. And to top it off: home made
desserts. Beverages included. Free will offering.
P.S. Last time we did soup and sandwiches, I was told the wild rice soup
was to “die for”! Just a hint!!
Holiday Bake Sale will include many wonderful holiday treats and Lefse.
Volunteers are needed to help. Donate you favorite holiday baking.
Come and bring your family!
Leah Wichmann Hinz, WELCA President
Lefse making will be Nov. 5, after 2nd service. Come and join the fun. Light
lunch will be served.

Sunday Fellowship and Forum
We head into fall with an end goal of Thanksgiving. October blessed us with
some wonderful presentations and ended with the confirmation of our young adults.
A reminder as to what our time together is all about. A brief history reminds us that this time
together was formerly known as PACE, Programs for Adult Christian and Community
Education. The "PACE" committee was interested in taking on a "new" name. We
welcomed a new pastor and felt it was time for a “new” look. After much discussion, we
came up with Sunday Fellowship and Forum. This Sunday time following the first service
then is a time for coffee, cookies and on most Sundays, some program or presentation. It
might be a guest speaker discussing a social issue or someone talking about a community
or church issue. We make use of DVDs, power point presentations and homemade
travelogues. It is something to keep us engaged, provoke discussion and involvement.
Thus the "Forum" in the title.
After a year of this new title, folks are still having trouble letting go of the PACE title and not
exactly warming to Sunday Fellowship and Forum. It is a mouthful. I don’t know what the
answer is. We have had good attendance and participation at our gatherings thus far no
matter what the name of this time is called. The committee is open to ideas if a better,
catchier title is needed so members know just exactly what is happening in the after-church
service coffee hour. We can simply call it Sunday Fellowship. No matter what the title, here
is what is planned for November.
11/5: We will gather to sign cards to send to servicemen or women from the congregation
or relatives of members. We want to let them know we thank them for their service and that
they are in our thoughts and prayers.
11/12: We have viewed DVDs relating to Luther. We will likely view another and have
discussion.
11/19: Members will have taken a trip to Ireland. Tentative plans are to hear about it.
11/26: A time for coffee after Thanksgiving.
This time together depends on volunteers to make the coffee and put out the cookies. It is
a non-threatening opportunity. It does involve a commitment to come a bit earlier than
usual, and start things rolling. It’s not that difficult and there is always someone there to ask
questions of. Think about joining us for coffee and joining in on preparation.

URLC Celebrates and looks to the future!
Have you seen anything different happening at URLC in the past 20 months?
If you answer “people on ladders”or“people looking under sinks and in the walls” or “people painting, installing carpet and tile,” or “people taking down the bell,”– you are correct!
All of that and more has been happening at URLC since November, 2015 when the church council approved a remodel, restoration and renewal project for our church properties. This has been referred to as "Project 3R."
Project 3R is the first large updating endeavor since the Fellowship Hall, classrooms, and office addition were built 30 years ago. The completed project is now a legacy for the next 30 years and to be enjoyed by our children, grandchildren, and the community.
The result has transformed many areas of URLC with an attractive, but functional décor; new seating areas; new tables and chairs; remodeled and updated kitchen and bathrooms to name a few.
Other improvements may not be as noticeable – a new boiler for the sanctuary and Sunday School area (important in the winter); resurfacing the parking lots; signage; new lighting inside and out; sound system; window replacement; tuck-pointing and repairs of exterior and roof; ceiling tile replacement; improved accessibility; bell tower reconstruction and bell relocation.
So let’s celebrate the completion of 3R project!
As we celebrate, we will also raise money to pay off the remaining debt of the project. A portion of the money raised will be contributed to other organizations in need of our assistance.
Through the end of September, 2017, $175,806 of revenue has gone toward the project. $234,248 is estimated to be needed to pay off the remainder. The URLC Trust Fund committee has approved a matching grant of up to $10,000 this year that will go towards the repayment of the money borrowed through Edward Jones financial.
Planning of several celebratory events is underway. Other events are in the talking stages with planning and details to be worked out in the coming months.
Schedule of upcoming events
Sunday, November 19, 11:30 a.m. – Celebrate fun, food, and fellowship! The 1st Annual URLC
Hot Dish & Jell-O Competition! Funds raised will go to 3R and Lutheran Disaster Response.
Saturday, December 2 – Celebrate Advent! Annual WELCA lefse & bake sale and soup & sandwich lunch. Contributions support the missions of WELCA.
Dates to be determined – Celebrate Curiosity! “Guess the weight of the bell.”
Watch the Sunday bulletins, the monthly VOICE newsletter, the URLC website and Face Book, for additional details as these and additional events are planned.
We want as many people of the congregation to be a part of the upcoming celebrations. Please say “yes, absolutely!” when called upon to assist with a celebration. Find ways that you, your family, and your friends can be a part of the celebrations – either by assisting in carry out an event, making a financial donation at the event, or being a part of the URLC community in celebrating.
Ongoing contributions, whether through regular giving, Thrivent “Choice” Dollars or direct deposit also have a significant impact on project expenditures.
If you have questions, suggestions, or wish to help with a celebration, feel free to contact any of the members of the 3R celebration committee.
Thank you!
