*GREETING

VOLUNTARY Variations on “God, My Lord, My Strength” R. Roschke

INTROIT When Morning Gilds the Skies J. Barnby

*CALL TO WORSHIP Leader: We’ve come to worship the Living God, Source of Hope, Bread of Life People: who loved us before we were yet born, Leader: who knows us even better than we know ourselves, People: whose presence never leaves us, whose strength never ceases, Leader: whose love is steadfast and mercy is abounding. People: This is our God. ALL: Let us worship together, with hearts, and voices, and lives!

*HYMN OF PRAISE No. 92 UMH For the Beauty of the Earth DIX

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH The Apostle’s Creed No. 881

*GLORIA PATRI No. 71 Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning,

is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen

PRAYER FOR THE DAY Loving God, we know your love because we have mothers, because of the village of women who have come around us. We thank you for the mothers who carried us in their wombs, nourishing, protecting, and bringing us into the world. We thank you for the mothers who did not give birth to us, yet loved us just the same. We pray for the women who have struggled to conceive, or could never conceive and yet still choose to love. We ask for strength for women who struggle to decide and for those who wait to hear words from adoption decisions. We pray earnestly for women who have known the pain of their child dying. For single moms who show mighty love and strength, for grandmas who love and protect, for the brave women that shape us, we pray. Gratefully we celebrate women who have stood up and filled the gap in places of our community with love and support. With gratitude we remember their words of encouragement when we have felt unsure or afraid; for their kindness when the world has treated us unkindly; for their comforting arms and the gentle way they kissed away our tears. We thank you that they protected us with the fierceness of a lioness protecting her cubs. We thank you for the times when they corrected us rather than letting us continue down wrong paths. Help us to live so that their investment in us might not be in vain. We honor our mothers, all these women, with lives of service to you in the name of the Risen Christ, for it is in God's mighty name we pray. Amen.
