Aim: To understand what is MOODLE and Why

we use it.

Activity 2: The teachers need to share the idea

with students about the knowledge sharing over

the web and its importance in a classroom

setup. Students need to share their creative

ideas, views, observations in a collective way

using the internet.

-MOODLE software will be used for these

activities, which is freely available and is tailor

made for the students and teachers who can

share assignments, lesson plans and lessons

over it. It gives flexibility of creating forums and

sharing knowledge among students. It can also

be used for sharing files, documents and for

preparing presentations.

Aim: Learn the importance of e-content in a

Activity 3: The teacher needs to create an

administrator login on the MOODLE and then

students need to create individual client logins.

As shown in the worksheet at the end, students

will be divided in 4 groups according to their

house and will then be asked to create a

common login and password for each group, so

that student in each group has a common login

password which is different from other groups.

Aim: create an account on MOODLE and

log-in/log-out from the page.

Interpersonal Intelligence

Learning Outcomes The students will develop the ability to:

- appreciate the importance of knowledge sharing over the web.

- Start using MOODLE as a tool for e-content creation.

-Login and Log-out of the MOODLE setup.

initiatives’ required to make the development

sustainable. Students are encouraged to use logos,

pictures, write-ups, creative thoughts, document

files etc. describing the current state of

environment around us, various ways to improve

it and long term solutions for sustainable

development, all in MOODLE setup.

Aim: Organize data, documents and files in

Transdisciplinary Activities

Subject Activity

Environment Studies Students need to look closer at the environment around us. What are

the issues being faced, how the environment is getting degraded? What

are the possible solutions to make the environment a better and

healthier place for us and for future generations?

Mathematics and Statistics A bit of mathematics and statistics will be used for the evaluation of

results. Students need to evaluate the averages, prepare graphs and

charts and check if those are correct using the mathematical knowledge.

Critical Thinking:

-Create awareness about the issues and possible practical solutions.

-e-Learning as a platform for sharing and collaborating on creative ideas.

-Appreciate the importance of mobile learning in the fast paced world.

Life Skills/SEWA

-One of the prominent learning from the content creation on ‘Environment and Green Initiatives’ will be

to increase the green cover in our surroundings. Each student will plant a tree in his/her neighborhood

park and will encourage people in the surrounding to do the same. Discuss these initiatives on the

Forum created in MOODLE.

Setting the authentication method(s)

An administrator can set the authentication method(s) for the site as follows:

1. Go to Settings > Site administration > Plugins > Authentication > Manage authentication

2. Click the eye icon to enable selected authentication plugins (closed eye = disabled, open eye = enabled)

3. Click the settings link opposite the authentication plugin(s) you have chosen

4. Configure the required settings and click the "Save changes" button

5. Repeat until you have edited all the plugins you have enabled

More than one authentication plugin may be enabled. Any authentication plugin can be used to find a username/password match. Once found, a user is logged in and alternative plugins are not used. Therefore the plugin which handles the most logins should be moved to the top of the page in order that less load is put on authentication servers.

Authentication common settings

Authentication common settings can be changed by an administrator in Settings > Site administration > Plugins > Authentication > Manage authentication.

CBSE-i Secondary/Class IX/ICT/Unit3 Page 17

Page 18: Unit-3- E-Content Creation Using MOODLE (1)

Self registration

If you wish users to be able to create their own user accounts, i.e. self-register, then select Email-based self-registration (or any other enabled plugin that can support self registration, like LDAP) from the drop-down menu. This will result in a "Is this your first time here?" instructions and a "Create new account" button being displayed on the login page.

Warning: Enabling self registration results in the possibility of spammers creating accounts in order to use forum posts, blog entries etc. for spam. This risk can be minimized by limiting self registration to particular email domains with the allowed email domains setting (see below). Alternatively, self registration may be enabled for a short period of time to allow users to create accounts, and then later disabled.

Note: The Email-based self-registration authentication plugin must be enabled to allow users who previously self-registered to login with that plugin. Selecting Email-based self-registration as the self registration method allows potential users to self register.

Guest login button

You can hide or show the guest login button on the login page. Hiding the guest login button disables guest access to the Moodle site, however logged-in users can still enter any courses which allow guest access without being required to enrol.

Alternate login URL

This should be used with care, since a mistake in the URL or on the actual login page can lock you out of your site. If you do mess it up, you can remove the entry from your database (table mdl_config) using, e.g., phpmyadmin for mysql.
