Running a car can be expensive particularly for short journeys where it

may be cheaper, more convenient and less stressful to walk, cycle or

take the bus/train. Alternatively, you could reduce the running cost of a

car by sharing your journeys with colleagues.

WELCOME

Travelling sustainably can minimise your impact on the environment by

improving air quality, minimising your carbon footprint and contributing to

a healthier lifestyle.

This travel information pack will provide you with information to make your

choice easier when considering options for travel to and from work.

This pack has been produced as part of a Travel Plan specifically for Unit 2

which aims to reduce car travel to and from the business park.

By including walking or cycling into your daily lifestyle you will not only be

contributing to creating a healthier environment but a healthier you too –

not just your physical health but your overall mental well-being!

Make eye contact with the driver of the vehicle

Always use dedicated crossing points

Unplug your headphones and put your mobile away – don’t be a

distracted walker

Car Sharing

If it is too far to walk or cycle to work, consider car sharing. By car sharing you will

have the benefit and convenience of the car, whilst reducing the costs and

alleviating associated problems with congestion and pollution.

What is Car Sharing?

Car sharing is where two or more people share a car and travel together whether

this be for commuting, business, shopping or any other journey purpose.

You don’t even need to own a car, as many drivers are happy to give a lift in

exchange for a contribution to the fuel costs of the journey.

Speak to your Travel Plan Co-ordinator

about registering your interest to car share.

Your journey to work can then be

matched with other employees or

colleagues and you can begin car sharing.

Save money on petrol and parking

Reduce the stress of the daily commute

Reduce the pressure on car parking demand

Reduce traffic congestion and pollution as there are fewer cars on the road

On average, a car-sharer can save around £900 a year through car sharing

Opportunity to meet new people

What are the benefits?

How can I Car Share?

Also, register with the Surrey car share scheme at: www.liftshare.com/surrey

It is free to register and use and your journey details can be matched with others.
