Salary or Income

The total amount your business pays you BEFORE taxes, insurance, union dues, etc The number on your

contract or advertised hourly wage

This is what banks, loan officers, etc are looking for

The amount you take home. Usually 75% of your salary. The number on your

check or that is actually deposited into your account

This is what should matter to YOU

Salary (AKA WAGES) Income

Page 5: Unit 2: Careers and Planning

Productivity

How much can you do in a given amount of time Is influenced by salary

EX: if you mow lawns and receive $30 per lawn, you’ll try to cut as many lawns as possible. Whereas, if you mow lawns, but are paid $60 daily regardless of how many lawns are mowed, are you going to mow lots of lawns?

Brainstorm real life examples of this with your table

Standard of Living

Minimum standard conditions you want in your life My standard of living includes: a 3

bedroom/2 bath home, activities for my kids, netflix, wifi, 2 cars, a smart phone, etcI would consider my family to be “struggling” if we didn’t have this minimum standard.

Someone else might include a maid or nanny, not having to work, fine dining… This is completely up to the individual
