UNIFORM MATTERS – OUR POLICY

The College has an attractive uniform which identifies our students. We thank you for your co-operation in maintaining high standards.

“A high standard of personal appearance is

expected of all students at all times.”

SHOES

Students should wear a sensible, appropriate, professional and formal leather style shoe in black.

There should be no logos or colours on these shoes.

This shoe should be flat or with a low heel and not a fashion item.

Sandals, backless or canvas/fabric shoes, trainers, boots* and leisure shoes are not permitted.

* Ankle boots are permitted under trousers only

Branded Leather or Canvas Trainer (e.g. Vans)

JUST TO BE CLEAR…

Leather “Vans” or “Converse” style trainers are not acceptable.

NAIL VARNISH

Nail Varnish is not permitted at any time. Should this be applied at weekends, it must be removed before returning to College.

Please bear this in mind as no form of nail varnish, long term treatments or false nails are permitted.

Should nail varnish be worn to College you should expect to have to remove the varnish / product and some form of sanction.

HAIR STYLES / COLOURS

You will not be allowed to have extreme, bright or non-natural hair colours, tints or dyes/shaven heads/braids with beads. This includes dip dyed hair. Hair should be traditionally styled. Long hair must

be tied back for practical subjects and exams.

JEWELLERY / PIERCINGSOur policy reads:

A watch, a single ear-stud may be worn in each ear lobe and a flat ring are the onlyitems of jewellery allowed. Extra items will be confiscated. Wearable technology (such asthe Apple Watch) is not permitted. Any form of body piercing, e.g. nose/tongue studs, isunacceptable and could result in you being excluded. Ear stretchers are not anappropriate form of jewellery so must be removed. All jewellery must be removed forpractical subjects. We always recommend that students only have piercings during schoolholidays when there is adequate time for these to heal.

Should you choose to have additional piecing please take care to ensure that appropriate time during school holidays is catered for healing.

We do not permit any form of retainer. It may be the case that the piercing has to be removed and the hole is allowed to heal.

BAGS AND LOCKERS

Bags should not be taken to the dining hall.

There is an expectation that students use their lockers to store bags and coats during

lunchtimes.

Handbags are not suitable school bags.

TIGHTS AND SOCKS

Tights

Plain black, natural or navy. No footless tights or leggings.

Socks

White or black, must be worn below the knee.

COATS

Students are encouraged to wear appropriate warm andwaterproof coats to and from College. During the school daythese should ideally be stored inside lockers. Hoodies are notpermitted to be worn to or from school or in school at anytime; the only exception is the use of official “AvonbourneHoodies” during Dance and PE lesson time. These “AvonbourneHoodies” must not be worn out of school at any time.

Note: Fake Fur coats are not an appropriate waterproof coat.

MOBILE PHONES

During all lesson times including PDP and morning registration, mobile phones should be switched off and out of sight. Mobile phones should not be used at any time during lessons unless specifically sanctioned by the class teacher.

Students may use their phones outside of lessons but must not take pictures, recordings or videos of students or staff without permission.

Should mobile phones be used without permission, staff will confiscate the phone and pass it immediately on to the relevant Pastoral Head. If mobile phones are brought into College, the school accepts no liability should they

be lost or stolen

JOURNEY TO AND FROM COLLEGE

You must wear your uniform to and from College.

You must not change clothing unless there is a reason that has been approved by your Pastoral Head.

For example… At no time should you be walking in our out of College wearing a Hoodie or Trainers.

Thank you to all of you for upholding our high expectations with uniform. Our uniform is an important aspect of College life as it identifies our students as being smart, dedicated and well presented young people.

Please remember that if at any time you are unable to fulfil our uniform requirements, you must bring a note from home explaining the reason and a date when it will be rectified.
