UNIFORM – GUIDELINES

When wearing the Kent College uniform our pupils represent and act as ambassadors for the school. As such, we expect all pupils to wear the uniform with pride. Full school uniform, including a jacket, is to be worn in school during teaching hours. Equally, day pupils travelling to and from school, and all pupils when outside school on organised activities, are to be correctly and smartly dressed. Particular attention should be paid to the following rules about uniform, jewellery and general appearance.

DRESS CODE: PRE-RECEPTION-YEAR 11

Smart uniformPupils should wear the school blazer at all times. The school V-necked claret jumper may be worn under the school blazer. White, ironed shirts or blouses should be tucked in. Boys wear charcoal grey trousers, or shorts in the Junior School. Girls wear the school tartan skirt, which should NOT be shorter than knee length. In the Senior School boys wear their House tie, while girls wear a House badge on their blazer lapel. Ties are worn by boys in the Junior School from Year 1.

All uniform should be clearly labelled with the pupil’s name on name tapes, and footwear should also be labelled with permanent marker.

Day pupils travelling to and from school must wear full school uniform. Exceptions to this rule can be made only with permission of the Head Master.

GroomingNo extreme hairstyles are allowed and hair may only be dyed natural colours. Makeup and nail varnish are not permitted.

JewelleryStudents may wear one small ring and a discreet silver or gold necklace with a small attachment. One plain stud earring may be worn in the lobe of each ear. Bracelets and anklets are not allowed. Jewellery is not to be worn for PE. Please ensure that all earrings can be removed for sport and games. No jewellery is permitted in the Junior School apart from small stud earrings, which must be removed for PE.

FootwearStudents should wear smart, black, school or business-like shoes that are kept clean and polished at all times. Shoes can be slip-ons, lace up or with a fastening strap and buckle and should have a maximum heel of 1 inch (2.5cm). Under no circumstances should flip flops, trainer-style shoes, boots or boot-style shoes be worn in school. Please also note that correct footwear should be worn in the Sports Hall (non-marking trainers) and on the Astroturf (Astro trainers or suitably studded trainers). Studded or bladed football or rugby boots must NOT be worn on the Astroturf.

In the Junior School pupils will also need to keep a pair of Wellington boots at school.

All pupils playing rugby and hockey are required to wear mouthguards, and we strongly recommend that these are custom fitted. OPRO, the dental organisation that specialises in mouthguards, visits school at the beginning of every academic year (September) to take impressions and supply named mouthguards. Information about this service is emailed to new and existing pupils during the summer holidays, and orders need to be placed online a minimum of a week in advance of the visit.

More information about OPRO can be found at: www.opro.com

OPRO visit Kent College Senior School for fittings on the first Friday of the Autumn term in September, and the Junior School in the second week of September. Full details are available on the website or from the School Oce.

If your child already has a mouthguard we recommend you check that it still fits correctly before term begins. If you are unable to attend the fitting in September, mouthguards can still be ordered through the OPRO website. Cheaper mouthguards are also available from sports’ shops, and it is useful to have a spare mouthguard moulded and ready for use.
