Access to Vaccine for Use in Humanitarian Crisis: Progress to Date

• A “Humanitarian Mechanism” has been developed by WHO, UNICEF, MSF, & Save the Children to enable CSOs, governments and UN agencies access affordable vaccine for use in humanitarian emergencies

• The mechanism is finalized and available as of 1 May 2017: http://www.who.int/immunization/programmes_systems/sustainability/The_Humanitarian_Mechanism_ToRs.pdf?ua=1

• Two offers have been made for Pneumococcal conjugate vaccines, for making PCV vaccine available at Gavi prices, for use in Humanitarian context including securing access for CSOs

• UNICEF has made long term supply arrangements for access to these offers

• 124,000 ds of PCV vaccines have been shipped for support to refugees through a donation from one manufacturer in January 2017

Antiretrovirals (ARVs) 2016: 6.1 M packs of ARVs procured. Equivalent treatment for an estimated 394,529 adult patients for one year of first-line therapy in 37 countries Amoxicillin DT 2014: 8.5 M pneumonia treatments 2016: 32.2 M pneumonia treatments. Supply to 34 countries ORS-Zinc Co-Pack 2014: 1.8 M packs 2016: 13.4 M packs (sources in India, Bangladesh, Kenya and Nigeria) Malaria Prevention 2016: 10.6 Million SMC treatements, 9.6 M courses of SP

Polio cessation and 2017 UNICEF work priorities

• Ensuring coordinated and efficient supply and delivery of polio vaccines to countries

• IPV procurement: Procurement strategy, tender, partner consultation, awards, contracting for supply from 2019 and beyond

• OPV procurement: Tender, awards, partner consultation, contracting to secure supply from 2018 through cessation, including consultations with GPEI senior management on supply risk mitigation options and funding requirements

• OPV global stockpiles – maintain and extend current existing stocks of bulk and mOPV2 for outbreak response

Malaria Prevention and Diagnostics Key Projects

LLINs Major Projects: • 15.7 m LLINs to Côte d'Ivoire (US$ 44 million) – 497 containers (Delivery in progress)

• 6 m LLINs to Chad (US$ 12.6 million) – 172 containers (Delivery in progress)

• 6.0 m LLINs to Sudan (US$ 12.6 million) – 148 Containers (Delivery in progress)

• 1.2 m LLINs to Afghanistan – (US$ 3 million)

ZIKA Virus R&D Diagnostics • Developed target product profiles (TPPs) for ZIKV IVD to guide industry

• Developed an innovative financial tool (Advanced Purchase Commitment)

• Demand forecasts have been defined, shared with industry

• Launched the first tender in February 2017

HIV PoC VL EID Diagnostics • HIV Diagnostics at PoC: Early Infant Diagnosis (EID), and Viral Load (VL)

• Funded by UNITAID - support the Point of Care (POC) HIV diagnostics market for accelerated scale up in 10 countries

• Phase 1 approved in December 2012 for a period of one year - $20 million

• Phase 2a approved in December 2013 for a period of 18 months - $35 million

• Phase 2b approved in September 2016 for a period of 4 years - $95 millions
